Title: Raffle: Choose Your Own Adventure - It's over! We have a winner!
Post by: allyourblood on October 20, 2011, 05:08:10 PM
Hark!, people of, or related to, the TurboGrafx-16 and its intergalactic sibling, the PC Engine! Some of you no doubt turned up your noses at basic puzzle outlier Klax, offered in my first raffle. Others were likely disappointed that Bonk's Adventure, from the second raffle, was too common; most folks already own it. "When are we going to get a raffle that offers something for everyone? That offers choices? That offers... Freedom?" Well, here's your fix, thou fickle connoisseur of archaic electronic leisure!

allyourblood's Choose Your Own Adventure raffle! Winner chooses one of the following games:

(http://www.killedaway.com/images/rafflechoicetn.jpg) (http://www.killedaway.com/images/rafflechoice.jpg)

1. Blazing Lazers (US), HuCard only, but in okay shape.
2. Dungeon Explorer (JP), HuCard, original case & manual, replacement sleeve. Exhibits some wear.
3. J.J. & Jeff (US), HuCard, original case (retention clip is gone) & manual, replacement sleeve. Exhibits some wear.
4. Pac-Land (US), HuCard, original case & manual, replacement sleeve. Exhibits some wear.
5. Sonic Spike (US), HuCard & manual only. Manual is very crisp. Card has some light wear.
6. Tale Spin (US), HuCard only. Pretty good shape.
7. Tricky Kick (US), HuCard, original case & manual, replacement sleeve. Exhibits some wear, but overall good.

Upon close of the raffle, I will ship ONE of the above choices to the winner, free of charge in the US.

As before, a few rules or guidelines, if you please:

1. You must have joined the site prior to this first post to qualify, and you must have at least 50 posts before entering: Yep, I raised the required post cap this time around. The prize is better (in my humble opinion) and I think the stakes should be higher. I want to reward active members for their participation. If you don't have 50 posts yet, get to work. But please, no filler or garbage; find a topic to participate in, and share your thoughts. That's what makes this site so great.

2. If you have won a raffle on this site in the last 30 days, please sit this one out and give others a chance to win. Share the wealth!

3. Please enter only if you don't already own at least one of these games. Shouldn't be hard for most members to find something they don't already have. Hence, the lovely, lovely choices!

4. As in my previous raffles, international entrants are welcome, but you'll have to pay shipping, which might negate the joy of winning a not-so-valuable HuCard. Your call.

So, that's it. I'm going to let this run a little over a full week to give folks plenty of time to enter, so I'll select a winner Friday night, likely around 6-7pm PST (10/28/11). Post if you want in, and good luck!

Hm... I was actually giving this situation some thought. roflmao, since the 30 days would be up on the 24th of October, and this raffle doesn't close until the 28th, you could join within those last 4 days and be square. So, to save you the trouble of just joining up in a few days, you stay. Anyone else that falls into the same category is also free to join, as long as your entry in this raffle is at least 30 days from your last win.

Did that clear things up, or did I just make things more confusing? Made sense in my head...

Works for me!  I just wasn't sure if it was 30 days from the time you posted the raffle or 30 days from the time the raffle was drawn, so decided to err on the side of caution.  But, if you insist on keeping me in, I will happily oblige. :D

I asked my wife, and she agrees that 30 days from the date when the winners are selected seems reasonable. If anyone thinks otherwise, feel free to voice your opinion; I'm trying to standardize my raffles going forward, so I'm open to tweaking things a bit to improve the experience. However, for this raffle in particular, I'm sticking with what I already decided: 30 days prior to the close of this raffle is acceptable.

I'm also considering bumping up the minimum number of posts even higher (say, 100?), next go-round. I've only been here a short while, and I've handily passed the 100 post mark, so I know firsthand that it's not hard to do. We'll see.

In an alternate dimension where I would actually win something-That Mathius was wanting to make his loose Dungeon Explorer PCE complete by winning this raffle. Would that violate the rules since I already have somewhat of a copy? It it does I will gladly pull my admission.

I agree that it is easy to gain a big post count in a short amount of time (not counting the Fighting Street spammers like TurboStar and guyjin), but there are others, like Chop5, who have been around for ages and have been an immeasurable resource for the community, who have a very low post count, because they primarily hang out in chat. And then you have RoyVegas-type people who would meet the post-count requirement but would still in all likelihood (at least how it looks on these forums) turn around and ebay whatever he won for a profit.  No easy solution that I can see.  :-k

Hmm... I suppose that's a valid enough reason for entry. I would ask only that, upon winning, you either A) request only those elements you need to complete your copy (ie: just the case, manual and sleeve), and leave the card behind to raffle another day, or B) raffle the extra HuCard yourself in a reasonable amount of time. Sound fair?

I hear you loud and clear. I've been thinking about those very same scenarios myself. I'd like a post count requirement that is just high enough to discourage members from posting random garbage and "me too" replies, but low enough to allow long-time members and frequent chat contributors to get in on the fun. As for long-standing members with high post counts that don't really contribute anything to the community, there's not much I can do there: hopefully they'll know better than to enter since the good members will likely call them out and roundly humiliate them for trying to "horn in on the action".

I have been around for a few years and I can tell you that, for whatever posts may occur in Fighting Street, Turbostar and Guyjin contribute a lot to the other sections of this forum. I have met Turbostar in person twice and believe him to be a valued member of the community. There are some members here that only reside in Fighting Street and seem to exist only to show everyone their worst traits. Which would you prefer? :)

I have to admit, I've been a big fan of TurboStars posts and love his TiD videos on YT.  It was a bit of a surprise to me when he went all crazy in FT the other day.  I hope that's a momentary lapse in his character. :P

Also agreed that Guyjin has also been an exceptional resource to the Turbo community - it's just too bad they he (briefly?) went off the deep end in FS with all the needless posts.

Are those types of posts allowed in FS?  Sure.  Does it exemplify good character?  Maybe, if it's not taken to far...  Am I being an anal snob about this?  Perhaps...

Ha ha! Turbostar's craziness is why we all love the guy and like having him around. On the other hand I must have missed Guyjin's great leap into the deep. Anyway, welcome to a forum full of anal snobs. :P

Allyourblood, you make a good point about a minimum post count. I know I currently don't qualify, but that should be rectified soon. You are correct in that 100 posts may seem like a lot, but it doesn't take very long to rack them up once you get involved in the community. I think that is a pretty fair and unbiased minimum and you should go for it.

It was in response to seeing a photoshop of a pic of my son with a peen in his face taken from one of my YT vids.  The attempt was to bury the thread.   I'd apologize, but I'm not sure if saying sorry is allowed in FS.
