Post by: Arkhan on November 07, 2011, 03:06:22 AM
Ok.  As was mentioned once previously there are limited quantities of this HuCard prototype.

So first things first:

You can get a chance at one by winning the following contest.

You have until Thanksgiving.

The contest:

China Warrior.

Highest score by the time I eat some turkey on Thanksgiving is the winner.

Submit your score by posting a picture of your feat.

Get to it.

I trust noones going to be a tool and use slowdowns / emulator toolery to get the highest.  If you have to do that, you shouldn't even own a Turbob. :)

expect more contests/raffles announced during the next week or two.

Ha! I should've guessed!

Time to play some China Warrior, I guess.

So because of you, I played this game longer today than I ever have...to the end of level 1-2. :)

To show off sprite size has to be the only reason this abomination was released, right? I mean, I'm sorry Arkhan, I know you (at least pretend) to love this game, but my god...

However, I will continue to trudge through it. I topped out around 50k, but I'll try to hold the bile back in my throat and do better.

(Please don't disqualify me).

Yeah, same thing.

and thesteve, you can use an emulator as long as you promise not to cheat and use slow-down, etc. ;)

Don't worry either way, there will be more contests!

Also, jlued, you're high.  China warrior is sweet, lol.

It's a rhythm game, you just don't notice!

What exactly is the prize (I must have missed the post where you were talking about the prototype hu card)?

I've always loved China Warrior, not sure why, as I suck at it.  Wish it had a few more music tracks.  Either way, great game IMO.

Game isn't aweful, not great either. I can usually make it to the stage 4 boss then I'm done. Can't get past him. Can barely lay a hand on him, so obviously I'm doing something wrong. Has anyone to date ever finished it? From what I'm aware you can run through it three times (each time getting harder) then the game is done and you can see the credits. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My friend beat it, and has the ending video to prove it.  Go to Youtube and look up TheMeanArena.   he beats alot of games.

I can beat it.  It's one of the first Turbobobobo games I ever beat.

Bonk, Neutopia, Keith Courage, China Warrior, and Vigilante.  The 5 Horsemen of the Turbocalypse

Just watched that vid. Nice how they didn't bother localizing the ending and character names. Guess they never figured we americans would ever make it to the end. Pwned!

I love the game too, and I can beat it for real... that is to say, to loop thru it three times until it tells me to give up.

I think that this is a great idea and that China Warrior is the perfect game to kick it off. I'm hoping to brush up enough on my CW skills to submit a serious high score.

China Warrior is a polarizing game like JJ & Jeff. People who don't get it are somehow driven to care so much about it to actively hate on it.

Though I doubt my score will be all that great, I'll be tossing my hat in the ring.  It's a perfect game for the season - I'm gonna try making my turkey day mashed taters by punching them.

I don't have a legit copy, but I guess I could play on the emulator. Slowdown/save states are for goons with no skillz.

Nah, I'll play it on legit hardware.  8-[

IT IS RACIST.

Hate crimes against sticks and birds!

I wish I had the game.  I've never really gotten into playing on an emulator.  I'm definitely interested in helping support the cause so hopefully I'll be able to participate in your next contest.

Just to clarify, the winner of the contest still pays for the prototype, right?  You're looking for a way to fund the development of these while opening up the opportunity to own one to a wide range of people, am I correct?  Have you set a price you're looking to get for these?

No price yet, but it will be reasonable.  You're basically winning your spot in line since there are not alot of them.

That what I concluded, but I wanted to make sure.  I think it's a great idea and I'm all for it.  Hopefully I'll be in the running in the future. :)

China Warrior brings back memories... it was quite an achievement for me when I beat it back in the 1990s... took a lot of trial and error and repetition... and it was fun... but I haven't played it for over a decade!

Ark, you might wanna make it clear that these aren't contests for a giveaway, but rather contests for a place in line to BUY a prototype. I've seen hints of it in comments here and there, but this info needs to be front and center on every thread for each new contest.

maybe ill post a contest rules thread and demand it be stickied.

I figured "raising funds for further development" would imply these aren't free, lol

Yeah, and I think many of us get it just fine. But when you call something a contest you have to be explicit, otherwise you risk having some wanker come along and crap on the entire process. Explicit communication is always better than implicit communication.

Well, to be fair, if someones going to be a wanker, the person below said wanker on the winnings list can step in.  Not all of us are wankers, I hope!

China Warrior is on play, even though my skills at this game are lame ;-) It had to happen though as I would love one of the proto cards. (As I suspect a lot of folk on here would)

I surprised myself as I managed to get to the end of Level 1-2.  So much so that I am going to give it some quality play time tomorrow to see where I can get.

One tip for China Warrior:  Learn how to hit everything except the boulders.

Every bird.  Every stick.  Every fireball.

If you're ducking under shit, you're doing it wrong.

"Ducking under shit!" you say.  This is advanced game play for me as the shit normally just hits me in the face ;-) LOL
