Was farting around on Atari Age & noticed a new game by Orion. It's aparently multi plat, including a version for the PCE CD! Here's the link http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/193993-elansar-project/
It's not my type of game, but, I'd still buy it.
-
Very cool!
-
yeah, but its not my kind of game either.
I'd buy it at least.
-
Well, if that's the kind of game Orion wants to make, sure, though I can't say I feel the PCE is really in need of that kind of game.
-
That is very kool! I don't mind the Myst-style games at all.
I watched the "making of" video and it was nice (well, the music kept me interested).
Do we know who Orion is? I love that he chose PCE as one of the three platforms...

Does it need other RPG's too when it has already so many masterpieces?
Anything new for the PCE homebrew-wise is good. Obey, whatever genre is being released. OBEY is the only word. :)

I like the idea of a Myst style game for the PCE. Even if it only takes an hour to beat, better than no game at all. I'd buy it.

It concerns me how many folks on this forum have enough disposable income to throw out claims of being willing to buy anything... What are the po' folks among us supposed to do?

Play illegal isos until you can afford to buy them all.

The same thing I did, suck it up and sell off everything: All your Duo games, your broken Duo, controllers etc..... of course hindsight being what it is I will need to get a Duo RX sometime in the future. How the hell else am I supposed to play Jungle Bros. on real hardware....

OMG! I had no idea about the URC Demo! That thread was created during one of my sabbaticals and I don't think anyone ever referenced it when I got back.
Thanks for the scoop (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgb.png)

Sweet! I like point 'n click adventure puzzlers, of which the pickings are mighty slim on the Turbob.

I was thinking, we should probably send an email to the fellow just to say,"Hey, a bunch of us in the TG-16 community appreciate your work and wan to encourage you."
I know this sounds corny, but I gotta let him know that his efforts will not be in vain. (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

How many homebrews have been or will be released for the PCE? Only 3 have been released and just a few are announced so you don't have to be rich to get them all. Orion said his game would be 15€ only. It's not such a big deal, isn't it?

Yeah, but a lot of folks here are professing to want to pony up for stuff that they are only interested in because it is on the PCE, suggesting they're not really interested in the game itself. That seems like a waste to me. I'm not ponying up for MSR and I only have a copy of Insanity because I won it. I do plan to try to pay for Atlantean, because that is a game I think I want to play enough to own. If you guys are interested in charity, great. I'm interested in good software that I want to play

It's no different than buying random PCE games you come across and giving them a shot. It's much better than it was bitd, when you really were blindly buying many imports for large amounts of money. I ordered Snatcher and Last Armageddon from a mail order store, who called back at the last minute and said that they were sold out of LA and they only had one other RPG: Cyber City OEDO 808. I would have been much happier with Mysterious Song in 1993 than I was with OEDO 808 and MS is several times cheaper.
But if you're a poor PCE player who hasn't had the luxury of obtaining most of the games you want, yet your primary concern is quality, you should stay away from Atlantean and almost any other homebrew game and instead buy several high quality commercial PCE games for the same money.
For many people, the price of these homebrew games is insignificant, so it shouldn't matter to anyone who's not interested, whether they can afford it or not. It costs no more than watching a film at a theatre while enjoying a drink and popcorn. After which you have nothing tangible to show for your money other than a fading memory.
It's not like people are being asked to invest in a game that hasn't even been started yet.
For many of us these games are also works of art. That alone makes them worthwhile to me. Also, the experience of buying a new PCE game is priceless for me. I don't line up for midnight launches of blockbuster games. But the thrill of holding and playing a new PCE game is still as powerful as it was twenty years ago. I still do not blink while the PUSH RUN BUTTON! is frozen as a game loads for the first time. The moment the game comes up for the first time is when it comes alive for me and I'll never have that experience enough times.
-
Yeah, I don't go see movies in theaters, either. And I suppose the best way to drive a community is to ensure at least some of the participants have copious disposable income. Makes it so the picky folks and the penny-pinchers have options and can hold out for the homebrew titles we really want. I've got my eye on Jungle Bros. and Atlantean, and the truth is, I bet I would enjoy both of them greatly.

Only thing that would make ANY kind of purchase a waste of money is not to make use of the purchased item. I doubt anyone who has preordered MSR or plans to purchase any other PCE homebrew game does so with no desire to play it. If you play through MSR just once to completion enjoying it all the while, it has most certainly made it a worthy purchase.
I've preordered MSR and also purchased Insanity and both MindRec games and have thoroughly enjoyed all three. I also plan to purchase any other homebrew that comes out since I am not only a PCE collector, but also a gamer. It isn't like games are released for the system 5 titles a month. The MindRec games have been released 10+ years ago and Insanity back in 2010(?). Only reason you couldn't afford one PCE homebrew title once every few months to several years apart is if your a bum living in a gutter or are wasting away your cash on booze, cigarettes, hookers, and the trash being released on the new gen systems.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
I've spent hours and hours on each of the five released titles and feel I've definitely gotten my money's worth.

Personally ,if i sell my creations, is only for covering costs for professional pressing or duplication with silk screened CDs, and color manual/covers ..
-
Really, the payments homebrew makers get is basically like saying:
"Thank you for spending countless hours of your free time to make this game at the rate of about 30 cents an hour".

Unless, of course, the PCE isn't your only platform of choice, and you have other interests/hobbies/bills/obligations/whatever. We're talking about priorities, here.

You can only have one platform of choice!

Obviously. The point is that it doesn't take 'copious disposable income' for me to come up with $30 every other year.

LOL, not false .

This is not charity. This is support. I AM going to play this game anyway. The PCE has been treated so poorly on the homebrew scene that everytime I can encourage devs to come up with new PCE games, I do it. If this helps them produce other games, improving on quality standards, then it's great.
Projects being currently worked on seem much more ambitious than the first hoembrew games for the PCE. Why? Because devs had to get used to the hardware and start with games that were not so impressive but still very enjoyable to play.
