Just saw this flier, and there appears to be some strange joystick I've never seen in the bottom right corner:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OUT-RUN-OUTRUN-SEGA-PC-ENGINE-A4-FLYER-HANDBILL-/221000052428?pt=FR_Jeux_Vid%C3%A9o&hash=item3374a12ecc
Any idea where that's from?

What the....?
I don't know what that is...
-
Is that a joystick on the right and a throttle on the left?!? Perhaps it's a mockup/prototype like the SGX power console and never made it to production.

WHAT WE NEED IS A BETTER PIC/SCAN of this advertisement!
STAT!
-
cool, found more about it here:
http://www.pcengine.jp/a62.htm
XE-1AJ インテリジェントコントローラ
XE-1AJ Intelligent controller
it says it is the cyberstick set, an analoge controller made by Denpashibunsha, that can be used for outrun, afterburner II, operation wolf, thunder blade and even forgotten worlds. and it was a present/give away to only 100 peeps, who sent the questionnaire letter, which was inserted into the outrun manual, to NEC avenue.
damn, now i have to check out my copy of outrun.
-
Nothing yet, but I did find this:

*edit* Nice Tats! I found this, which appears to be similar? http://x68000.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2009-07-22

Just a standard Intelligent Controller Cyberstick. It was created by both Sharp and Micomsoft working togheather.
Very easy to find in Japan. I'd assume all you need is a converter cable to go from X68k/MSX/Towns DB9
to PCE pinout if the games do in fact support it. I have the sharp version. They are the exact same internally,
if I remember right Micomsoft was THE stick maker back then, and Sharp approached them about the idea, Micomsoft agreed but wanted to sell it under their own brand as well.
Edit, looking closely at the flyer, it's certainly a standard cyberstick with a cable adapter. I'll have to rig one up and try. Though ironically enough I don't any of the compatible games on PCE LOL.

Wow! you have one!
-
he has one, but he has not THAT one.
-
The giant white plug in the flyer pic is clearly an adapter cable. There is nothing different about the stick itself. Micomsoft also sold various adapter cables for their many controllers back then. If I can get one cheap I'll give this a try.
Well that didn't take long LOL. Just ordered an XHE-3 (Official Micomsoft X68K->PCE controller adapter) and a copy of Outrun. Well report back when I get it all in. 8)
-
The design is the same, but the button/switch coloring is not.

Learn to read every word. This stick was made and sold by SHARP and MICOMSOFT. Both were sold for X68000 use. Exact same thing, difference being the colors and logos and box design only. The Sharp version also has those green stripes, they are under the turbo sliders, which are turned off in my pic.

I did, douche. You said "The giant white plug in the flyer pic is clearly an adapter cable. There is nothing different about the stick itself.", implying that the only difference is the adapter cable.

I really don't need any more hardware, but now I want XHE-3 and one of those ridiculous controllers! Damn it!
-
That looks really awesome! I'd love to play Afterburner 2 with it if it does indeed work.
-
yea I think I remember seeing it being advertised along with outrun and afterburner II for pce in those japanese pce mags waaay back in the early 90's although I don't ever recall any importer getting their hands on any of them here in the UK..
giveaway present to 100 people....... #-o

I number of years back, it was discovered that Afterburner on the PCE supported analog stick controls. Is this an analog stick?
-
Yes the stick and throttle are fully analog. Very common item in the X68000 fan world. There's about 14 X68k games that support it, works great for Afterburner and Thunder Blade. I'm looking forward to trying it with the PCE games.

I love me some outrun and now I feel like I have to play it with this controller.
SuperDeadite, what does one of these controllers and an adapter go for in Japan? You are making it seem common, aka - cheap. In which case, we all want one!
-
Yeah, I REALLY fricking want one!!!!!
-
I paid 3,200yen for mine boxed.

I'll give you 3,400 yen RIGHT NOW
where did you get yours from? I'm finding it hard to get any hits no matter what I type.

Haha, well living in Japan helps. As I said these were meant for X68000 computer users about 14 or so games that support it, the PCEngine games are just a theoretical bonus. Hence they often turn up at places that sell X68k gear. You'll usually see it listed as the "Cyberstick."
Personally I have no desire to use mine with PCE Afterburner and Thunderblade, as the X68000 versions are much better ports and I already have them. But sadly the X68000 never got a port of Outrun, so I'm looking forward to trying that.

:O
It's also called the cz-8nj2, but I can't find a cheap one. One was on sale for $300 on eBay.de, and one seems to be on sale in Japan for 20,000 Yen. Pricey.
-
Just got the adapter in. And it works with PCE Outrun perfectly. :) The throttle functions as an analog gas pedal. Stick left and right to turn, up and down to shift. All the buttons are brake. I'll put up a video later.

Holy crap. Send me the controller and adapter. I will pay you. Thanks (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png).

I think this confirms it! (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.png)

The demand for this controller has reached new heights.
Man I love Outrun. Arguably my favorite Sega arcade game growing up (Shinobi and Altered Beast both also got a ton of my quarters).
-
Man I love Outrun.
Get Sega Age Outrun for the saturn and the analogue wheel. both cheaper together than this controller, and best outrun in universe :)

I'll do this, but I still want a PCE analog stick for PCE Outrun!

lol, me too :)

Yeah, and the Saturn Mission Stick is probably the best way to play Afterburner as well. But it's not on PCE!
-
Do we know if the stick works for PCE Afterburner II? :)
-
It must, since it says so.
-
*sigh* every time I check this thread, it isn't someone replying saying they found a box of these in a warehouse and he needs to get rid of them for free.
-
Welcome to reality.
