I've been using this guide (http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes/574691-emerald-dragon/faqs/14822) for the Super Famicom version; the two versions are close enough that I've been able to make it about halfway through so far.  As for menus, here are the ones I've figured out and needed so far:

 'select' menu -
 ____
 1
 2
 3

   1 - talk amongst characters
   2 - map
   3 - save

'button II' menu -
 ___________
 1    2    3
 4    5    6

   1 - equip items
   2 - describe items
          submenu 1 - weapons/armor
submenu 2 - useable items (potions, etc.)
submenu 3 - story related items
   3 - character order
submenu 1 - character list on left hand side of menus
          submenu 2 - battle formation
4 - use items - pick character and item first, then:
submenu 1 - use item, then pick who to use it on
submenu 2 - give item, then pick who to give it to
          submenu 3 - drop item
   5 - character status
   6 - save/load
          submenu 1 - save
          submenu 2 - load
          submenu 3 - ???
          submenu 4 - ???

I'm not sure which one's which for the other options, so I'll check 'em out tonight and get back to ya.

Only thing you need to know about Emerald Dragon, is that it has fantastic sprites, but the battle takes you to that "Devil Man" PCE HU-card post apocolyptic RPG, that reminds of you of "Gain Ground" but without the movement.

Blah blah, your this dragon that grewed up with a human girl, and you will do anything to be with her.

@necromancer: but the snes guide says something about a castle as the third place to visit? i was in the town 1 at first, then the temple and then the dungeon with the golem boss fight. now i went past these guards protecting the next dungeon (?) and iam in the next town where i had to battle to get access to a house. i will play it more this evening.

button 2:

1. euqip
2. ?
3. character battle formation change?
4. items > a. use b. give c. ?
5. status
6. save/load

thats what i figured out so far.

Fight your way through the house and beat the boss, after which you'll be taken to the castle to talk to the king.

damn, iam stuck in the game.

i was in ELBARD city for the second time at FRAWARDS MANSION and met OSTRAGON, who told me i have to search for AVESTA in the DARDWA FOREST. the walkthrough says that ia have to go through ARBATH STRONGHOLD and by exiting it, YAMAN should join my party. but that does not happen and he is even not back at NANAI VILLAGE. what should i do now??? where to find YAMAN???

I'll make my reply small to hide it for anyone that wants to try figuring it out on their own:

Are you sure Yaman isn't in Nanai Village?  I'm reasonably certain I found him in the inn (second floor maybe?), but it coulda been in the Dardwa Forest Village instead.  In any case, I'm positive I found him standing inside a building in one of those two towns and had to go talk to him - there's no event trigger that'll get him to rejoin your party.

Another tip in case you get stuck a bit later (I did):

The Fairy Fuwaru doesn't really open a door to a cave.  I wandered around for a long time (two hours) trying to find a cave, but what you're looking for is the clearing south of the first town that you couldn't enter before but now can.

thanks a lot, i will try to find him tomorrow. :)

the inn in nanai village does not have two floors i think.
do you know long the game as a whole is? iam 8 hours in right now.

I'm at 22 hours, but that includes two+ hours looking for Yaman and figuring out what's explained in the second tip.  Also, I don't think it stops the clock when it's idle on a menu and I'm off cooking dinner, showering, fapping, etc.

@necromancer: i got back hasram now. the guide book shows there is a new forest area (forest D) where i could travel before collecting the red herb for hasrams rescue. in this forest i could met a blonde girl. do you know where this place is?

played the game for 15 hours now and it is still awesome.

I didn't do anything between retrieving the black orb thingy and going to the Doc's town.  I didn't find either of 'em and assumed they weren't in the PCE version, but maybe that's the City of the Dead or the Ghost Town mentioned in the SNES walkthrough.

Please do.  Even though I can't read it, I'd love to see the pictures and artwork.

@necromancer: i have played 22 hours now and iam at garusias castle. cant beat him on level 104. which level should be enough? sorry that i can not post scans, my scanner is broken. -.-

No scans = no help!

:P

I honestly don't know.  I don't recall what level I was at, but I didn't have too many troubles with him in either form.  I've not done a lot of intentional grinding (other than trying to find the 'cave' earlier on), though, so it shouldn't require you to level up much - I'm at level 124 now, and the new levels come fast when you're picking up 3-4000 xp in one battle.

I am now.  I ended the game at level 133 (132 for Tamryn).

how many hours are you into the game now and is it still a long way to go from where iam now?

I think I ended at 37 hours, but I wandered around a lot (I refuse to rely on the map and gotta check dead ends myself.... sometimes twice) and wasted hours cross-referencing moon runes to make sure everyone was properly equipped.

@reno5: great descision. it really is an awesome game and if you are stuck anytime, let us know ;)

@necromancer: finally i defeated garusia at level 108. he was really tough and i had to try him 5 more times today until i defeated him. 23 hours right now. is there a chance to buy better equipment after defeating garusia?

You can't buy it, but yes.  The final areas are full of stuff to pick up - there's so many treasure chests that I ended up leaving at least half the stuff behind.

finally iam through the game. it took me 26 hours and my final level was 124. last battle was a little bit too easy compared to garusia. but netherless it was an awesome game and one of the best rpg experiences for me.
