Title: "Meet The SuperGrafx" by punkfloyd
Post by: cabbage on September 10, 2012, 11:18:27 AM
Here is a new Supergrafx demo by punkfloyd called "Meet The SuperGrafx" --
A very nice demo indeed with some cool effects! Also very informative for the (many) people who aren't familiar at all with this hardware. Hopefully it will stir some new interest in supergrafx homebrew :)

Pretty sick, is there a file available for download?

Ah, thanks for reminding me, I forgot to try that demo on PCE hardware... it looks great, and the colors seem nicer on my TV screen than using emulator!
This new demo makes me want to buy a supergrafx  2 background layers, double number of sprites, so much RAM...it really seems like fun hardware.

Lol, good old fashioned 1990 style amiga & co demo scene demo :)
Indeed. I liked it (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgs.html).

I always had/still have big respect for the peeps than can throw such cool stuff on a screen, especially on old systems. I really have no clue of how to do such things. How and were to start. all respect is due.

I like how in some spots the music resembles C64 tunes.

I WANT MORE SuperGrafx demos. Gimmee some decent tunes and pulsating colors and I'm happy.

Wonder if they used Squirrel!

I looked at the rom in a hex editor and didn't see any ascii text referring to Squirrel (or anything else ascii in english). The opening Capcom chime is 7khz 8bit PCM playback (using two DACs for 8bit playback). But the music doesn't use any samples/DDA. So maybe, dunno. The demo appears to be written in assembler with their own routines, so I'd hazard a guess that they wrote the sound engine too (a handful people have written their own sound engines for pce, so it's not unlikely).

I know you are still hibernating, but I just wanted to say that it has been nice to read your posts these past few days. :)
Back on topic: SuperGrafx.

I tried opening demo.sgx with Magic Engine and had no luck, just gave me a black screen. Is there anything I'm supposed to be doing with this?
