Looking to sell my loose PC Engine Duo R. Its original (no region mods, no caps replaced, etc), but everything works as it should. No sound issues. Originally bought from Hit-Japan. Console is white as it should be, but the controller is starting to yellow some. Comes complete with A/C adapter, A/V cables, console, and controller. $200 shipped in the continental US.
EDIT: Took some more photos, with the resolution on my cellphone set as high as it would go under the direct lighting of a standard 60 watt bulb. Unit doesnt have any yellowing that I can see, however, the Duo R isnt a bright white (like an original PC Engine). It seems to be a grey-ish white (and I've been told this is normal for these consoles). As shown in the pictures, there is no color variation between the outside of the unit, and underneath the card slot or CD drive. If the unit was yellow or starting to yellow, there would be a noticeable difference in those areas. Hope this helps.

Hello, are you willing to ship internationally?. I am in Mexico.
-
Possibly, however, I'm sure it"ll cost a little more to ship south of the border than inside the US. How much more... I'm not sure. I'd have to check up on that
EDIT... did a quick online search and it looks as though its gonna cost about an estimated $13 more to ship to Mexico
-
Dont ship anything across the border unless you ship it with tracking and insurance, even if it cost more. Otherwise you're just asking to be ripped off by any cheap non-track-able/non-insured ship method.

How does that yellowing even happen tpivette?
-
Dunno... when I purchased this unit, it was already like that. Its not white, but not the grotesque yellow I've seen on some of them. Thankfully it's only on the controller.
I've heard alot of theories, but the one that sticks in my head is cigarette smoke causes it. Maybe there are alot of smokers who are into the PC Engine in Japan? Luckily, there are fixes, and whitening a controller should be fairly simple

PM! :-)

As far as the yellowing, that's actually due to the flame-resistant compounds used in the plastic. Pretty much anything plastic and beige is going to have it happen at some point, some just faster than others. There are methods to reverse it, but it takes a bit of effort to do so.
Anyways, good luck with the sale! Seems like a great deal, I'm actually in the market for a Duo right now, but want something with region mod/RGB, been keeping an eye for doujindance's stuff, but all he has is a supergrafx right now :/
-
To be honest, all I care about is the whiteness, scratches, dirt, and condition of the console. Controllers and other stuff can always be easily replaced. But in regards to the plastics, It seems like perhaps DUO-R cases got upgraded over the regular stuff. I rarely see those yellow over controller and regular PC engines.
-
Only 85% new PC Engines yellow ;)
-
duo r pads are always yellow
-
This is what I wished I had purchased rather than what I got from doujindance, he's charging way too much nowadays and is work is questionable.
Controllers are easy to whiten, doesn't cost much and only takes a few days.
Good luck with the sale! :)
-
For those who don't know you can easily re-whiten the controller with bleach. I have done this in the past with no side effects whatsoever.

That's why I avoided his auctions. Some people wire up consoles wrong (Such as region mods) which cause some flash cards not to work properly, as well as provide other services which not everyone needs.
I sent in a PM for this unit, and provided everything is on the up and up consider it sold!

Yeah, I didn't want the region mod, in fact when playing US games my TV goes nuts and flicks between 4:3 and 16:9 mode. Not a big issue as I can force my TV to stay in 4:3 mode but it shows that he's not the modding God that some think he is. Lesson learned, I'll never conduct any business with him ever again. Kicking myself for not listening to other bad reports and my instincts, I just wanted an RGB Duo so bad and it seemed like the easiest way. If I ever need another Duo I'm just going to grab a clean stock unit like this one here, at least it will work as intended and not be hacked up by some cowboy.
Anyhow, glad to see that you scored yourself a nice Duo-R!

Sorry to derail this tpivette! I was just curious!
Duo R 4 Sale everyone!!!!!!!
-
No problem... I'm actually gonna put this sale on hold for a few days while I try to whiten both the controller and the console. While the console isn't yellow at all, it also isn't blindingly white... which is what everyone seems to want out of these Duo Rs.
Hoping for good results, stay tuned

The controller will whiten with bleach. The system will not. You would have to use an alternate method.
-
Has anyone tried that tooth whitening shit? Rembrant or something like that? It whitens enamel so it has to be able to white a Duo.

Not going to use bleach on either. HercTNT just posted a method in the repair/mod section that he came up with that I'm going to test in the next few days
-
Hrm... Perhaps you could just send me the images. I'm not concerned about the controller, and just care about the system. If the unit is white enough, you won't even need to do anything. Though, I'm not sure how white these systems start off even to begin with.
-
You're never going to get a Duo R to be as white as, say, an OG PC Engine. They never were that white in the first place.
-
Glad you mentioned that, as I was thinking the Duo R isn't as white as a original PC Engine and got worried. Still, I think I want to brighten everything up a bit just in case as I don't want anyone to be disappointed when it arrives
-
Again, would you mind just sending the images of the console to me? :-) I'd rather you not whiten anything if I'm going to make a purchase. However, if your still dead set on whitening everything, that's fine. I wish you the best in your sale!
PS: In case anyone is wondering, whitening plastic using Retro-Bright or other chemicals makes the plastic more brittle and weakens it's structure. In addition, it doesn't prevent the plastic from yellowing again. I'd strongly recommend against it unless absolutely necessary. The controller could use some touch ups, but the console looks just fine (Unless the low-res images from one angle was overstated due to the flash.

I don't have a high resolution camera at my disposal. I can only take photos from my Samsung Galaxy S cellphone. Also, the lighting isn't the greatest in my house for taking definitive, quality photos. So, even if I had time to take some additional pictures (which I do not... my sister is getting married today and I'm actually posting this from my phone at her recepion), I don't believe there going to be of the caliber you're seeking. I thought I would've had tme yesterday, but the wedding preperations and rehersal dinner took up most of the day.
So if you can wait a day or two, and don't mind cellphone pictures in subpar lighting, I can send them to you. I'll hold off on the whitening until I receive a response from you.
BTW, I wasn't going to use retrobright... just a mild solution of peroxide and dishsoap. Don't know if that makes a difference or not
-
Hey,
Gee wiz, You should have said there was a wedding! Ok, send me a PM once all the craziness settles down and we can work it out. I'm sure everything will be fine. :-)
Cheers,
