Title: It's Halloween, time to play some Splatterhouse
Post by: Keith Courage on October 31, 2012, 06:15:32 PM
Also, what do people here think about splatterhouse 2 and 3 for the Genesis? I've never played them. However, they don't look as good to me from youtube nor does the music.

Splatterhouse 2 and 3 are just as good as pt1, though pt3 takes a different approach concerning the gameplay, and it has a more in depth storyline.

I might have to check them out. From videos the main character looks really weird to me in the 2nd one. Not sure what it is about the music either but I was never partial to the sound the Genesis put out for cartridge games. Maybe the Turbo grew on me at an early age to the point where other 16 bit systems just sounded odd.

nothing comes close to the good old arcade (or if you also want so, Marty) Splatter House. the pce one is still fun, but could have had some more of the arcade one packed in (lots of details are missing, especially the more morbid ones.)
splatter house 2 & 3 are ok, especially SH 2. but have lost a lot of the initial flair, style and atmosphere which SH 1 had. Therefore I'm a big fan of SH 1, but not so much of SH 2 & 3.
SH 1 was a stroke of genius.

Some people might not know, there was also a Splatterhouse for the Famicom, called Naughty Graffiti.

I've not opened my sealed copy yet, nor do I think I will. Too much value would be lost :(

Arcade version for the true experience. Turbob Splatter is fun, but besides the lacking details, for me it's all about the sound. Having the pcb in my cab just sounds so good. Turbob sound is very weak in comparison.... Here's my old 1 life clear vid on hardest settings by the way. :)

I really wanted to spend some time last night playing Splatterhouse, along with other horror-themed games, but I was answering the door every 30 seconds the whole night. And my game room is upstairs. Oh well. Gave out like 10 pounds of candy last night...

Dang, I shoulda played this one last night. It would've fit in with Magical Chase a lot better than P-47.

I don't care opening sealed games, but not when I've seen more than one copy recently being sold for more than 100€. This is the first and only time I don't want to open a sealed game.

Deadite's got some unmatched skeelz at Splatterhouse!
I remember actually jumping the first time I got to the mirrors stage. Such a great idea. Fun game. Never really tried the 2nd or 3rd games in the series. I think it was probably due to being upset that they weren't coming out for my turbo.. LOL

It counts if it's actually fun. If it's just another "God of War" engine with 3d characters from the series... then, well no. I give you an F.
What is it Terry? An F or an A?

Still love me some Splatterhouse. I remember buying the game with my own cash back in the day, cost me $60 in 1990 money (!!) and beat it in 3 days. While I was stoked that I beat it, immediately after that was the feeling of "f*ck, I just paid $60 for 3 days of gameplay...)
Either way still a must have in the Turbo collection IMO.

late to the party, but i wanted to toss my two cents in. Splatterhouse 2 is by far my favorite, got stuck and didn't get to beat it before halloween, but i enjoyed myself anyway! Genesis seems like a halloween system to me, can't say why.

SH for the Genesis is great! The 2nd one is like the first so if you like the first the second is really good. Sega also let all he gore into the 2nd one. When I first played it a few years back even I was shocked that it was released with that much gore circa 1992.
The 3rd one is good as well. It plays more like a traditional beat em up like SOR and Final Fight. Lots of different endings, multiple paths and a bunch more new fighting moves.
The modern one was disappointing but the famicom one is a lot of fun as well.
So all retro SH gets a yay from me but modern gets a nay.

Man I never seen that Splattehouse commerical before, I don't know how I could've missed it! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
I was really impressed by the production quality, has a very US NES commercial feel. The end with the camera zooming past a library of Turbo games followed by a 3D animation of the official TG16 logo with Rick's sprite walking up to smack it with a 2x4 was a really cool touch!

hey now, I loved the new SH, though i wouldn't classify it as being as good as the old ones. luckily, it's got SH 1-3 on it already!
