Title: Looking to get TG-CD AC Adapter repaired
Post by: MotherGunner on December 14, 2012, 06:35:54 PM
Hi Guys, my TG-CD AC Adapter shorts out (resetting the game constantly) due to a loose stem at the base side end of AC plug (where the plug cable meets the box). Is there anyone who knows how to repair this?

Will the one that powers the TG16 base unit work with it? Im sorry the power supply is acting up, I never had any issues with it. :( If its at the end of the line, right at the brick, I would assume its an easy fix. Let me know if I can help you man, I feel terrible that its acting up.

They are different I believe. No worries Bernie, the reality is this stuff gets older every year and bound to need repairs! ;-)

Sure, shouldn't be more than a few bucks to fix or put on a new wire altogether.

chop recently repaired my Turbo CD AC Adapter. It had two loose solder joints. I remember he said he had to pry the power brick open.

Thanks Chany, when it was put back together, was it glued? Does it end up OK cosmetically? I suspect loose solder joints at the stem of the transformer box, but am considering buying an empty box if I need one.

Well, part of the plastic was chipped off when he was prying it off so he couldn't glue it back together. He ended up getting an empty box for the power brick instead. You could also use black plastic cables ties to hold down old power brick until you find a new box if the plastic gets chipped.
Just as a side note, Retrogamecave also sells replacement AC Adapters: http://www.retrogamecave.com/nec-ac_adapter.html

I ordered 2 ac adapters from Retrogamecave. 1 for my Duo-R and the other one for my Tg16 cd. They both work really great, but I will tell you the actual lenght of the wires are really short compared to the original ac adapters. Their only 44 inches in lengh and the originals are about 8 feet in lengh. A fairly big difference but the Retrogamecave ac adapters do seem to run a hell of a lot cooler and from what I read are also more efficient compared to the original ac adapters. Their worth buying but I figured Id give you a heads up on that ...

Thanks for the heads up. Since he makes them, I wonder if it's possible for him to do a special order with a slightly longer cable? I would like at least 2 meters if possible, but will buy one regardless. =)
