Title: Memorable TG16/PCE/CD Game SFX
Post by: pc_kwajalein on February 22, 2013, 01:25:31 AM
Is there a sound effect from a Turbo game that you'll always remember?

Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu- Anyone else familiar with the sound that plays when Jackie and his master ride on a cloud to the bonus training stages? Man, I love that sound! I just gets me pumped to drop kick fish, and punch boulders over mushrooms.  :D

Any SFX you remember?

SoundFX and voices from Samurai Ghost. Between that stuff and the in game music, it really got me in a great mood every time I played the game when I was a teen. I beat the game quite a few times back in the day, and always had a blast. I need to pick up the Pce version some time.

The voices that name the power ups in Blazing Lazers... I heard them so often as a kid growing up. That, and the short tune that played everytime you cleared a level in the game, accompanied by the text "AREA X CLEAR". Brings back memories

Keith Courage and Legendary Axe have some of the best sound effects off all time. The attack sounds stand out the most.

Dungeon Explorer again is full of great sfx, but the stair ase spin stands out for me.

The explosions in GoT.

The chip sound generated death scream of bosses in Bloodh Wolf.

The kitty blimp "meows" in Magical Chase.

The door opening/closing and heart refill in Adv Island/Dragons Curse.

So many of the samples used in every boss battle of Ys IV. The bird wing flap in particular.

Video phone screen answer in Snatcher.

R-Type fully charged beam and death sounds.

SFII' smashing/breaking sounds.

Bomberman explosion.

Bonk spin.

Bravoman's "bravo!"

Ys I - IV level up and HP refill.

Keith Courage. I can't remember the music with out thinking of the sound effects.

Edit: Kaze Kiri has perhaps my favorite sound effects of any pce game I've played.

All of the "Mystery Sound Effects" from the "PC Engine City" podcast (http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=13562.msg269554#msg269554).

Not to mention games from:

The rainbow transition during Keith Courage.
The skull laughing in Devil's Crush.
The guy dropping cannonballs in Star Parodier.

Not to mention about a gazillion others.

EDIT:  Just wanted to mention that this is an awesome thread idea!  Thanks for posting it, pc_kwajalein!

I can't even mention all the musical tunes and sound effects that I will remember. There are way too many. I even wake up some mornings humming a tune from some TG16 game and I will have to think all day as to which game it was from.
