I'm at my wit'wit's end... my 3 year old boys love playing turbografx, but the US library lacks any multiplayer games simple enough for them to play without getting overly frustrated. Bonk 3 and Battle Royale are the closest we can come to having fun.
I'm not very well versed in the JP side of things. Does anybody know of some PCE titles that are 2+ player and super easy? I'd love to find something they can get their feet wet with and get better with the controller before attempting anything too complex. I thought bonk would be easy enough, but the number of wall-jumps and such keep them from getting past stage1-2, and they perpetually fight over the big bonk candy (even though it perpetually respawns!)
all input is welcome. Thanks!

Kids' Station.

okaasan to issho niko niko fun

Perhaps they'd enjoy something like Panic Bomberman, Puyo Puyo, or Motteke Tamago. They're not particularly easy against the cpu, but against just each other they'd be on an even footing.
Or how 'bout a shewty? Let 'em try 1943 with it's in place, infinite continues.
-
Parasol Stars! They can pick each other up and toss themselves at the bad guys.
-
B-man is a no brainer. Maybe Buster Bros.?
Kids are smarter than you think when it comes to games...I'm surprised at cons when I see con-goers that bring their 3-5 year old kids that hold their own.

Splash Lake
Motoroaders

China Warrior

You could also get a flash cart, put some cheat-enabled roms on there and have them go at it. Any of the shooters for instance.

Pac-Land? One player though. But bright colors :) Have to break it out as I can't remember if it was easy or not.

My lil loved playing the Crush games when he was 3ish. Super simple controls. And in Devil's Crush, he quickly figured out that if he lost 2 the first 2 balls quickly, the third ball would end up in the top screen with the drain area blocked off so he could play it for awhile.

Street Fighter 2 on easiest mode. They can mash buttons and win and of course it looks cool.
-
The Doreamon platformer, maybe? I bought it from Bernie and thought it was pretty damn kiddie-friendly (maybe I'm wrong...but I don't remember any tricky platforming).
It's the CD version I played most recently.

Splatterhouse? Not kid friendly, but it sure is easy. Also a button masher :D
Bomberman series' multiplayer is awesome. I would recommend 93 campaign over 94 campaign, for the sole reason that the final boss is too tough (if you fail, you have to restart the entire level).
I don't know how good Bomberman 90 is, but from what I've played, it seems alright for a kid.

This since you can't die! You can run out of time though. It's a cute cartoonish platformer.

I'm thinking this is the winner. All good ideas (except for splatterhouse... seriously, wtf rolfmao). I haven't tried it yet (been wrapped up in some volunteer work and trading sickness back and forth with my boys) but will do it soon! I'm thinking about making a YouTube video to kind of illustrate what I'm up against... things spiral out of control quite quickly if the game punishes the player (or fails to reward) the slightest thing. Haha
Hey now... *I* didn't recommend Splatterhouse. Though I did recommend Devil's Crush. :)
This past weekend my 5yr old and I started playing through Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest, and he is loving it! He's a bit older, though, and can read most of the text on his own now, so that helps. We've been taking turns playing, and honestly, he remembers where areas are located better than me....
We also played Super Mario Kart on the SNES today for a good long while. It was his first time playing a racing game using a controller (though he's a wizard with Angry Birds Go on my wife's Kindle). We played a ton of Battle Mode. It was a good day.

now, one unexpected candidate is Ys IV. They caught me playing it and wanted to play, but I was afraid they'd kill my save! Maybe I need to break out the tennokoe bank and backup my saves, then put Adol in a starting zone where he can't be hurt. I think they can master "walk into shit" and maybe even get the hang of "shoot the wand". Lol...
Interestingly, I was thinking about loading up Ys Books 1&II for my lil. I bet he'd love the "running into things" aspect, though it may take some getting used to.

to be honest, there are very few pc engines games designed for under 5 years.
on the other hand, ps 1 and ps2 have many child oriented games
-
games like parappa the rapper, un lammer jammy, vib ribbon, bustamove/puzzle bobble, point blank ( with gun and crt tv), even spryo the dragon and crash bandicoot, klonoa, even wacky bishi bashi
ps2 games include, singstar Disney, buzz kids ( with buzzers), okami, guitar hero,
are far more appealing, educational or suited for young kids, than a pc engine

Ys I & II with the max level cheat would work; they should be be invincible against any early monsters.

Hello (I'm new here)
One that does not have simultaneous 2 players but which first world and usually second world levels are fun and easy enough for young children to play a bit with is Mizubaku Daibouken/Mizubaku Adventures/Liquid Kids.
Graphics and music are cute too.
-
Have you tried/looked into:
2- player
Be-ball
Kickball
Dodgeball
1- player
Doremon / Cratermaze - might be fun even if they don't get far
Batman -Cmon it's batman, although it might be complicated to one so young?? (There is a turbo view of this one I believe)
-
hmm dungeon explorer and bomberman??
also if you can afford it parasol stars. Great cute graphics and music and multiplayer also slightly less playable but cute graphics 'Don Doko Don'. there is also world court tennis. Simple but fun multiplayer tennis game.
if you don't mind the single player try these:
kid dracula
