There is a thread around here explaining Collectards. The Gouging Much thread is also informative and contains many cross referenced examples of proven market manipulation. The "how?" is very simple, the "why?" that too many people will do anything for money and "collecting" is a hobby taken over by very gullible and ignorant people who love when games reach new highs.
Bottomline don't expect logic from collectible markets nor be surprised to see anything happen at any time.

Rumor has it that someone has been obsessively posting about TG16 values in public forums, which has even further driven up the value.
There are other things to talk about around here afterall. Don't be afraid to give it a try!

I bought a PCE copy of Cotton for $50 and every time I play it I just switch the language to English.
Problem solved :D

Which thread about collectards are we talking about? The one that has been on going, or the one I started? In any event I understand some of these games being rare. I just could not understand the massive jump in a week...

I suppose a more serious response is that there are only 3 bidders, two of which have bid high.
In the online auction world, you really only need 2 guys that desperately want something for the price to increase substantially.
Typically the fallout from these events are 3 or 4 copies of the game get posted in the near future, because everyone wants to sell at this high price. Guy who lost on auction #1 ends up saving a lot on copy #2. Then copies 3 and 4 sell for $100 less than even copy #2. Once value goes down again, the hair trigger sellers decide they want to keep their games.

That was my plan for when the time comes. You have no reason not to get it since it can be played in English as well

I picked up a US copy a year ago or so for cheaper than Japanese copies are on ebay now. I paid less than a quarter of the price of that ebay auction (though I still felt like an idiot for paying that much for a single game).

That is like asking why there is a thread talking about gouging on here? I only asked if I missed something with such a big price spike. Why are you assuming that I would be selling my copy? You want to check to see if I am a seller? Here you go madboom522 on e-bay. I am a buyer. I have only sold my pc games or copies of us games, of which I offered on here first. I prefer the us release games.

come on...they aren't "new". they have had these games and systems ever since they were kids. especially the ones here where it took FOREVER to get approved access and have been lurking around the boards for years.

yea, when it comes to cd based gAmes, if you simply want go play the game, go for the japanese versions. right now, cotton goes for super cheap in Japan. I bought mine for 15$ cib last week for example. i have a huge collection already because i don't have to pay soo much for my games. Of course, its easier for me to access to those games since i live in Japan, but i was thinkig about helping people on this forum by offering an export service. maybe people would be interested in that kind of help on this forum.

Hello, Mister "I live in Japan Guy." I would love it if you made an introduction. Also, what's the cheapest someone could get a used copy of Coryoon off you? :3

Higher than I'm willing to go for Coryoon.
I saw one on amazing for $180 a few weeks ago I was playing with the idea of getting. Not sure if it is still there

on amazon jp and yahoo auctions, the best price is 250$, which is also the ebay price. its rare that ebay and japan share the same price. i can ask my retro shop to check their inventory. they found a pc engine duo r for 100$ with them, maybe they have more treasures!

I found tatsujin! i was searching for it under 達人, but after checking ebay i realised it was in our alphabet... anyway the price is the same as ebay, 350$. only 3 copies available, so those must be the kind of resellers i hate in Japan ; they check ebay price..... ebay isnt for japan, its for the unlucky outsiders! ;)
i get better deals on average rare games, less luck on those big bucks games sorry

You are right $150 I sent the seller a question to see if it had the case and manual or not.
That's the thing I don't like about Amazon. The sellers there never seem to list details for whatever game I'm looking at. Plenty of times I've asked about something only to realize it's sold by the time they get back to me. :(

That is one thing I find VARY frustrating. That and it is all stock pictures so the actual condition is unknown apart from a blurb that MIT only say "good condition".
REALLY leaves the thing open to interpretation.

Because I have no life but lots of curiosity, I've been digging through the sales forum in an effort to find the first person to have done a raffle. I came across this post (http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=4608.msg76642#msg76642) from 2008 which I found amusing:
Quote
I've seen it happen from time to time with records.. something is considered rare/in demand until it is found. I know a dude in Italy bought like an entire pallett of this record, Ventura - Another Time (amazing rec, one of my faves). Well the first sealed copy sold on Ebay for $1200. Now about 200 copies have sold and it's hard to get even $30 for it these days.
Look at Cotton.. the financial cache on that one is falling fast.
Is it possible that games like Dynastic Hero / Magical Chase / Bonk 3 are so rare because the entire stock was never sold ? They're sitting in a warehouse - some of the very last games produced for a system that most would consider obsolete? And do these Redfrog f*ckers now own all this shit ?
BTW: first person to do something raffle-like appears to be Sparky's Power Golf giveaway. (http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=6113.0) Also holy crap, some pretty awesome stuff used to pass through these forums. Also  at the fact that 6+ years later the same arguments dominate discussion here. :D

Yeah, Red Frog, I wonder what happened to all their stock they bought off of TZD when they closed. I recall in their online store they had a Dynastic Hero for sale, $600 or something. They weren't around for too long, because sometime later they had some sort of court case (Not related to TG-16), and that froze up certain things, and their ebay store and website disappeared.
