The Turbografx-16 and PC Engine Mini Announced by Konami!

Whaaaat?  Konami just announced this during E3 last night and my mind is blow.

Only a handful of games have been announced so far.

North America/Europe games :
    R-Type
    Ys Book I & II
    New Adventure Island
    Ninja Spirit
    Alien Crush
    Dungeon Explorer

The Japanese games:
    Bonk’s Adventure
    Dracula X
    The Kung Fu/China Warrior
    Ys I & II
    Super Star Soldier
    Dungeon Explorer

No information on price or official release date so far. I'll be intrigued to see what they do with the US catalog, I can imagine wrangling rights here would be ridiculous.

...I can imagine wrangling rights here would be ridiculous.

Would it be though? I imagine they can put a ton of quality with Hudson IP that's owned by Konami?

Total announced games:
    R-Type
    Ys Book I & II
    New Adventure Island
    Ninja Spirit
    Alien Crush
    Dungeon Explorer
    Bonk’s Adventure
    Dracula X
    The Kung Fu/China Warrior
    Super Star Soldier

I assume Konami already owns the rights to these:
Air Zonk
Super Air Zonk
Bonk 2
Bonk 3
Blazing Lazers
Bomber Man
Bomber Man 93
Cratermaze
Final Soldier
Gate of Thunder
Gradius
Gradius II
JJ & Jeff / KC & KC
Jacki Chan Kung Fu (I bet they'd have to get his likeness approval?)
Keith Courage
Lords of Thunder
Military Madness
Neutopia
Neutopia II
Parodious Da
Salamander
Sapphire
Star Parodier (?)
Twinbee

Games Hudson, NEC, or Red developed, so maybe they have ties to the rights:
Aero Blasters
Battle Lode Runner
Cotton
Download
Download 2
Legendary Axe
Legendary Axe 2
Riot Zone

I am sure I am missing a ton but these all come to mind when I think of Hudson/NEC/Red/Konami

If they can secure a good deal with Irem, Namco, Capcom, etc I imagine they can put together a dope little library :)

Woot!  Sign me up for at least the US version.

I like that they're gonna have 5 player capabilities, which means Bomberman 93 (or 94) and Dungeon Explorer (or DE2) are practically a given.

I wonder how many games they're going to include.
Also, that looks like USB... hopefully we'll be able to use those pads on PC and the multi-tap as a sweet USB hub :o
Pretty nice that they appear to be including 2-player support without a tap too

It looks like the OG PCE has OG non-turbo pads.  That seems silly.

Agreed, and the multitap will probably be replaceable by a generic usb hub if the collectardism is not a factor (I am getting turbo taps - don't judge me.)

I can't wait to hear what games they have on this.

Because of the potency of the PCE/Turbo library, and ease of emulation compared to the others, this should be the best Mini Console yet, right?

When I saw this news I thought for sure it was a joke or a parody. I had to triple-check the URL to make sure that it was really Kotaku.com and not a joke site.

I just can't believe this is actually real. So cool.

hahah, triple check the URL, check discord, text your friends!  Yeah, I still kinda can't believe it.

I think as long as the price point is around $70-$100 I'll be on board. I'd like to get all three even too. :)

YAY!!!  bring back the 16-bit console wars!

Oh I agree there is room for a ton of awesome Hudson/Konami titles but I was thinking more about the stuff that's sure to make people salivate. If they could get the US Magical Chase ROM on there, Dynastic Hero, or even some Working Designs titles like Parasol Stars or the Exile games I can imagine it would be increase their sales a lot for people who might buy it just to play the expensive games legitimately.

I'll probably get one as well but right now I'm leaning more towards a JP unit instead of a US one really based on the games.

The European version should have Sodipeng pads and tap  :P
Slightly worrying that The Kung Fu is already listed, and Alien Crush instead of Devil Crash...

Yeah I got really excited about this initially but would up not preordering after they went live.  :pcgs:

Still may pull the trigger but I really like the look of the PCE/CoreGrafx mini over the TG16.

I am not going to pre-order one. This doesn't drop till march next year. I really have no need for it but would be nice for the hdmi and plug and play form factor.

Other than that they are adorable, I only want one for the Supergrafx games. I never picked up a Supergrafx and this will at least feel more authentic than playing on a computer with the wrong kind of controller. But it is a pretty sweet lineup so could make for a great console to take on trips.
