"free game is not Dragon Ball, random pick"

First: it's not free. You pay. A LOT. The game may not be seperate, but you ******** pay!! "Free" should not be part of that sentence!

Second: Why the hell does it say "random pick"? It should say Sapphire (original version) x2!!

That seller sucks.

Edit: Had to send him a message. Pretty much the same as the what I just wrote.

Does he not bother to search ebay at all and see the same product on sale for 1/8th the price. This guy is either a crook, a moron, or has no idea of the value of the object he's trying to sell. Personally I think its a blend of being a crook and being a fruit of the stupid tree.
Title: Re: Wow...

The rest of the items in his store aren't that outrageously priced.

But the real question is: what the f*ck does "96% new" mean? 4% of the console is old? Which 4%? That could be a deal breaker.
Title: Re: Wow...
Post by: nat on April 24, 2007, 01:12:32 PM
I was poking around the PC Engine section of his store. Check out this relic:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEC-PC-ENGINE-DUO-JAPAN-JOY-TAP-Multi-Tap-offer-3-port_W0QQitemZ290014906390QQihZ019QQcategoryZ187QQcmdZViewItem

Look at the picture. Look at it closely. Study it. First of all, what the hell is it? I've never seen a 'Tap like this before.

Next, check out the part where he talks about the condition. This thing is 85% NEW!!!! "Very good condition"!!! Jesus, I'd hate to see one of his 100% old items.
Title: Re: Wow...
Post by: Keranu on April 24, 2007, 01:15:36 PM
Haha, that guy is still trying to sell that nasty tap. Someone posted the auction for that months ago and we were all saying how it looks like a rock from the stone age.
Title: Re: Wow...

Title: Re: Wow...
Post by: Black Tiger on April 24, 2007, 01:22:14 PM
Its obviously a typo. Its supposed to be $99.99. Just check his other auctions.

Some asian sellers use % to score the overall condition out of 100. 100 meaning new and 1 meaning utter garbage. "96% new" would mean mint condition, but technically imperfect.
Title: Re: Wow...
Post by: Joe Redifer on April 24, 2007, 01:28:00 PM
I figured that 96% new probably meant that the screws, AV cable and maybe the TurboChip™ door had perhaps all been used.
Title: Re: Wow...
Post by: nat on April 24, 2007, 01:33:23 PM
Well, that's a big no-can-do, then. I refuse to deal with used TurboChip™ doors.  [-(

That's why the Duo-R costs a grand.  It has a TC door and not a PCE Hu door.

That Freaking 3-way tap looks like it was used in an old Timex slapshot commercial or used in a garbage disposal dyno test.
Title: Re: Wow...
Post by: Joe Redifer on April 24, 2007, 02:05:13 PM
But it's 85% new!  I bet it's only the right corner that has been used.

At only $9.99 part of me is sorely tempted just to buy that tap just so I can get a look at it :-) I mean it's beyond the level of messed I've ever seen on a PC-E tap. I've seen a few models but none look like that one. Is it just a really messed up tap or is it some yet as of unheard of "Bonk Stone" Model.

I'll contribute $10 towards the beauty.  I may take it to a jeweler and have them turn it into a necklace or something, a la Flava-Flave.  j/k

We could turn this thing into a kind of "My week with the Hard Stone Tap."  Different forum members have it for a week and post pics with it.  Then mail it to another member.  It's like taking care of the classroom hamster in 4th grade.

This may be funny only to me, and would require people to run to the post office, but I'm chuckling thinking about it.

This idea is made of sheer awesome and win. This needs to happen.

It could be a series of Stone Tap Reports live from across the USA. We can even do a map to follow the Stone Tap's travels across the country.

I'm just going to buy it.  First, I should make sure that I'm actually going to get what's pictured.  It would be a huge let down to get this tap in any better condition.

I just bought the tap.  $17.99 shipped.  Expect pics as soon as I receive this bad boy.

Title: Re: Wow...
Post by: offsidewing on April 26, 2007, 08:51:34 AM
Heck, I could supply the tap on a contractual basis and get a "Producers Credit" in the next episode.

The opening titles could read like a Bond film...

"(insert Offsidewing's clever production company name here) in association with Keranu Films present Crusty Turbo Tap as Ian Fleming's James Bond in Ridley Scott's..  85% NEW"

It will talk, and when it talks, it will have a Sean Connery accent.  It's going to be one suave mofo.  He's going to have to be really smooth, cause he ain't gunna get things done on looks.

I'm not too worried about getting a visit from a federal agency, unless it's about another job.

I will wait for my 85% new tap to show up.  It probably ran into some immigration trouble at O'hare.

Where is it coming from again? China?

I stopped buying games from China when a package from there took 21 days to cross the Pacific to my home, in Seattle.

I have much more luck with packages from Japan, which arrive in no less than 2 and no more than 4 days after the sender ships them. A

Ridiculous, if you ask me, considering for all intents and purposes China and Japan are about the same distance away. Maybe US Customs agents have their eye on things coming in from China or something.

When you leave feedback for the seller you should make sure to note you were 85% disappointed with the transaction.

EDIT: I just read through this whole thread from message #1. This has to be the funniest thread ever to grace these message boards. It had me in stitches from the get go.

Necromancer made a good point early on that this thread needs to be stickied and never forgotten.

If you're ever feeling a bit down, if life's got you by the throat, just pop on over and re-live the 85% larger-than-life exploits of good ol' 85% NEW.

MY FRIENDS, THE DREAM IS OVER!  (Hey now, Hey now...)

The seller just replied and stated they no longer have the tap.   Christmas is stolen from me, the Pumpkin King is dead, I've met my Waterloo.

Seriously, I feel like I just got dumped.   :-&  All the seller offered was some lame ass 5 player tap or a refund.  Visions of me pimping the 85% new around my neck and screaming "YEEAAAHHH BBBOOOYYYY" around the office are no more.  Taking this thing with me on my next trips to Scotland or Germany, posting pictures, and playing "Where in the Muthaphuckin world..." are no longer possible.

I've written the President and asked that the flag be flown at half staff tomorrow.

Maybe buying this guy's Duo-R for $1000 will make me feel better...

Yeah, what the f*ck?

This guy led you to believe they had shipped the thing weeks ago, and blamed the fact that you didn't have it yet on "mail delay"?

After a MONTH of bullshit, he finally comes clean with the fact they never had it to begin with?

Agreed, the lying bastards!  Though they're probably really confused as to why you aren't interested in the five player tap.  Just take the refund, leave neutral (or negative) feedback mentioning 85% in some way, and move on without the prize.  :(
Title: Re: Wow...
Post by: offsidewing on May 24, 2007, 05:16:47 AM

Cr*p, this was an anti-climatic resolution. I wanted to contribute a few $$$'s towards the Encrusted Tap because I had faith in its existence. Now I don't know what to believe in. I'm floored. There has never been, nor will there ever be, another artifact like this one. What's the point in continu

Oh man, that really sucks. I was looking forward to seeing this classic piece of video game history in photos around the world. Guess the dream is over.

Perhaps we could "generate" a similiar-looking tap? Rolling it in mud, tying it to a string after the car, giving it to the neighbourhood bulldog... Anything's possible, but it will be extremely hard to take away exactly 15% of its condition, so I guess we're pretty much screwed. 85% screwed, to be precise.

Or: "I have no excuse that this item decided to stop existing"? "It's my fault".

Oh, you've struck gold, my friend. The subtitle is the real kicker: "ONLY GAME THIS GUY EVER PLAYED??? INSERTED ONCE!!!"

Ok, I'm slow: what does "chain-smoked" refer to? The fact that this dude put Jack Nicklaus in his TGMM-16 and never took it out, ever?

No, it refers to the fact this dude put Jack Nicklaus in his TG-16, never took it out, and then proceeded to smoke 239,871 cigarettes while apparently blowing smoke rings on the exposed portion. That's the only feasible, scientifically plausible, expert-endorsed way this cart ended up in this condition.

The real question is, what spectacular set of circumstances prompted the owner to actually remove the cart from his TG-16 in the first place?

Maybe he decided to give Power Golf a spin and never looked back.

Or maybe he just got lung cancer and died.

EDIT: Do you guys think that HuCard is 85% new???

I do not, no. More like ...... 68%.

The truly criminal part of the whole thing is that all pictorial evidence of 85% new is now nothing but a distant memory, for those of us who were there. Without the images, you only get about 85% of the experience.

The ancient stone tap never showed and I got a refund.  A truly dissappointing set of events.  My Lord is the thread funny...

I am glad to be back and for two reasons. 1) My 9 year old is really into the retro games.  Bonk, Super Mario, Bomberman 94, and Sonic. If he isn't playing transformers on the xbox, he wants to play TG-16 VC or the old Nintendo.  2) The Wii has been a real let down the past year with it's TG-16 /PCE VC.  So to fill the void I could get a Japanese Wii for $300 or, randomly visit this site for the first time in two years and pick up a minty fresh Duo-RX for $170 that was posted that very same day.   I'm not into Fate or Karma, but what are the chances??

In 2007 I thought the Wii VC would eventually have a lions share of the TG gems.  Wrong was I and back am I.  I especially regret parting with my PCE wireless controller set.  But I'm glad to be back!!

The original post concerned a $1000 not so minty Duo-R, but that's not important - the good stuff in the rest of the thread concerns good ol' 85% new, which was a beat to hell Joy Tap 3 for $10.  And now you can consider yourself 85% informed.  :)

I don't remember if i said this way back when, but I can understand the seller using a point based grading system if it was physically 85+% new and just happened to be filthy. But you can see at least 45 grading points of physically wear. Combined with the filth, the condition should've been graded as "as-is". A collectible like a sports card would have to be pretty valuable and genuinely rare in the first place, to hold any value in this kind of condition.

It's so awesome that the seller still tried to grade an item that was only worth what he was asking if it wasn't "85% new". An LT in this condition for any price wouldn't be as hilarious as something as an item as functionally useless as a 3 player tap. :P

Was this a lingjr auction? Maybe his fat finger hit the 8 and 5 keys at the same time and it was supposed to be labeled only "5% new" or "8% new".

The units in the picture look more like 90% new.

This guy should post a "% of new" scale, complete with pictures.  I would like to see what something that he thinks is 0-20% of new looks like.  Once you get below 50%, it probably stops resembling what you would recognize as that item.  Like a 50% new PCE CD drive probably has so much moss and dirt on it that you can only recognize it by shape.  By the time you get down below 20%, it probably just looks like a pile of rotting bananas.

By the time you get down below 20%, it probably just looks like a pile of rotting bananas.
Yeah, I have a Duo like that.  Ya think Blue can patch it up for me?

The units in the picture look more like 90% new.

This guy should post a "% of new" scale, complete with pictures.  I would like to see what something that he thinks is 0-20% of new looks like.  Once you get below 50%, it probably stops resembling what you would recognize as that item.  Like a 50% new PCE CD drive probably has so much moss and dirt on it that you can only recognize it by shape.  By the time you get down below 20%, it probably just looks like a pile of rotting bananas.

A 50 % new PC Engine looks surprisingly like a Sega Master System :P

Right!  And it will still play HuCards, but only ones that are about 50% new and more closely resemble (in both look and performance) SMS Sega Cards.

See? We can just start making the "% of New" scale for him.

I had an Action Max growing up. It looked cooler in the commercials.

I had one, too.  I think my dad bought it off of a clearance rack or something.  I had whatever game it was that had you going through a haunted house.

Just looked it up.  "The Rescue of Pops Ghostly".

Of all the goofy things I've done in life, being part of this thread is certainly one of the most memorable.

We have a sales campaign in my region at work, and we have a customer category called "85% probability."  I squirted coffee out my nose when I read the power point deck for the first time.

This thread always has, and always will be, a day brightner.
