Title: Old converter w/ bad connectors, can it be repaired?

My current PC-Engine to Turbografx HuCard converter isn't working so well anymore. The connectors are corroding and I won't stay connected to my TGX-16 system for extended amounts of time. Is there any way that I can fix this?

Take a metal brissle brush and scrub the connectors. Be careful to not scrub the pcb.

Michael's got the right idea. Personally, I use a metal nail file with a fine grain for cleaning contacts on video game carts. Can be less abrasive than a metal bristle brush or steel wool and usually gets the job done.

I find that sandpaper usually works quite well.

I use 400 grit wet sandpaper with a drum sander: in 2-3 seconds, you won't have to worry about the corrosion any more...

hmm 400 grit seemed to work. Too bad my TG-16 is at my parents house. I'll try and se eif it works tomorrow. Thanks guys!

Don't use a drum sander! I was joking about that :).

I didn't use the drum sander. I just rubbed the contacts a bit with the 400 grit and taped off the PC Board so I wouldn't touch it.

The best way to clean contacts that I have found without harming them is to use the NES cleaning past that Nintendorepairshop.com uses. This stuff is great, I got my Sega CD contacts to where I don't have to reinsert it at times into the Genesis to work. I also fully restored NES, SNES carts that had green corrosion on the contacts that wouldn't power up at all. This stuff is really good, 1 bottle is enough to clean over 100 carts.

I resolve this corrosion problem with the cd polish cream (the one game stop sells to repair cd scratches)
i have some games with a horrible corrosion in the board but i polish the ends (the part that must be inserted) & then i cleaned up with a soft cloth. works fine for me & its not dangerous for the pcb.

A white eraser it good for general contact cleaning too :)
