I'm considering putting in a region switch in my JPN Core, and also grounding the one pin (need to look it up) to allow US games to play. Are there any US or JPN games that can't operate with that pin grounded? Are there any potential problems as a result of this operation?
Thanks.

No, it only breaks Aldynes on the SuperGrafx.
-
I think space harrier also gets screwed up on the supergrafx :-k

Maybe.
But the bottom line is that the region mod only screws things up on the SuperGrafx. Doing it on a CoreGrafx won't break any games.

It will if used in conjunction with a Super Cd Rom 2 deck. I had issues with alot of hu-cards and I think Tron did too.
Basically you would get games that either worked halfassed or not at all and you had to remove the Coregrafx and just use it itself for the games to work correctly. Legion (crappy cd shooter) also had problems with the combo when the Coregrafx was region modded.

Well, I don't have a Super CD-ROM unit yet, and my financial state makes it unlikely for me to have one soon as much as I want one. A Core Grafx seems affordable enough, more so than a TG-16, so maybe my best bet is to mod the one I've got and just buy a new one for CDs later.
But then, I should probably also wait until I buy some US games, eh?

Yeah i did i had the same problem you had as well.
When the coregrafx was plugged into the scdr2 some hucards would not play.
Then i had to get a ac adapter for the,Coregrafx so i could run the console itself to play those games again.
I did get use to playing those games that way if any thing i saw 'it as a minor problem.
If you don't mind that...problem spenzoa then having a core region modded is worth it then.

I wish someone could figure out a technical explanation for why this happens.

Well, if I took a completely wild guess I'd say that pin has some relevance to the expansion port. Do Core units modded that way have any trouble with the AV Booster, Tennokoe, or briefcase CD unit or is this a communications issue specific to the Super CD-ROM unit?
