Title: PCE Duo-R D-Pad Trouble (Bad controller port?)
Post by: Ninja Spirit on November 15, 2008, 07:01:18 AM
"Up" doesn't work, left down and right does.

Tried both of my controllers, same happens on both.

does it act the same way with any game or this one in particular? a poor contact on the hu card can also cause this or it is possible as well as the joystick port.might try any other controller than the one you have.these are the only ideas i have.one other thing, are you using a multi tap or single controller.my turbo tap has worn contatcts and it behaves this way until i jimmy the plugs a bit.

Sometimes the din connector may lose connection with the pcb. This can be fixed by melting the solder around the pins to reestablish the connection to the pcb.

Alright more details come.

I had to tuck half the cord underneath the system so that it bends that extension plugged into the port downward toward the floor, and then it was fully functioning

Yea sounds like the solder joints are needing to be redone. Just get a iron, and the bit you need to pop it open, and redo them. All you have to do is touch each point, reheating them so they re-seat the pins tightly.

My TurboGrafx-16 does the same thing, have to tuck the controller cord under the system or place something on the connector to get it to work.  Really need to fix that, it's quite annoying.

So ghetto too.

I never soldered anything before, so I guess it's a good time to learn now since I'm highly considering making custom joysticks for the fighting game scene.

i just got a new sealed turbo tap and when i use it with the 6 button duo pad, the turbo buttons and 6 button function don't work... i haven't opened it yet ...compatability issue?

ok i looked at the board, and everything seems nice n tight...except for component j801,  i don't even know if anything is supposed to go there but it's soldered at the back of the board which makes it look so.

There are no incompatibilities with the 6 button pad and the Turbotap. Sounds like an issue in the pad to be honest. That, or you're trying to use 6 button mode in games that don't support it.

yeah...that missing component is the only thing i see wrong...if someone has a turbo tap they can open, let me know if there is anything in j801... or not. thanks
