Title: Use your Sony PSone 7.5V AC adapter on your Turbo Express!
Post by: Duo_R on December 11, 2008, 04:14:03 PM
Ok,

really quick mod, I have like 4 sony wall chargers lying around. The Sony chargers are nice and slim, have the fold-up wall plug, my old TE adapter is bulky and the pins don't fold up. I needed something more efficient for traveling (I still have love for the TE charger) so what do I do?

Well the Sony outputs 7.5V and has enough amperage to power a TE. Even the polarity is correct, only the pin doesn't fit in the TE!  :evil:

So hack off the connector tip, add one on that fits the TE (I used an old Belkin USB hub connector), verify that the negative line is on the outer part of the pin and you are good to go (nothing hard about this one). Next stop - hacking one of my extra PS1 car chargers for my first TE car adapter!!!

very important to get the polarity right or you will fry your TE. The 1/2 extra volt won't hurt your Turbo Express.

Polarity on the Turbo Express -

outer pin        ///            inner pin
 <->----------[o----------- <+>

7V,700mA <-----rule of thumb stay as close as possible to voltage, more amperage is ok (the system will only pull what it needs)

Note: I am not liable for damaging your Turbo Express. Mine works just fine, really important that you check polarity and make sure you don't short the wires and it will work just fine.

thanks, when you got 4 of these lying around you start thinking about things you can do with them besides getting rid of....
