Title: Buy Wrong closed!
Post by: DragonmasterDan on May 06, 2005, 02:11:06 PM
The infamous online gaming retailer (who sold a bit ofTurbo games) Buy Rite (known by many as buy wrong) has been shut down. http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/06/news_6123802.html

I've only had one purchase experience with them which wasn't horrible, but they did ship an item 2 weeks after purchase (this was via ebay since they apparently used many accounts). For anyone who dealt with them, they are now gone.

I've heard of them, and when I tired to get to their website, it wouldn't load for me. Guess now I know why!

There used to be a great site called "boycottbuyrite" or something like that. The kid was totally screwed by BuyRite so he documented everything, drove 2 hours to visit the brick-n-mortar store, taped his conversation (which wasn't too productive) and put everything on the site.  Plus, tons of folks added their own tesimonials. EDIT: found an archive of it:

I got broken cases from them, scuffed CDs, and slow service... but never totally scammed.  My brother, however, was totally scammed out of at least $120.

We only ordered from them 2-3 times, thankfully.  THEY PROMISED THE WORLD TO YOU and that's why so many folks ordered from them.  THEY HAD EVERYTHING IN STOCK, even hard to find stuff, and even folks who knew better (i.e. me) said things like "Well, if they really have X, I can't pass up a deal like that."

I think I ordered something from them many years ago, and they sent the wrong item.  They never responded to my email about the issue.

I've known of their infamous reputation for years, the one time I ordered from them was inadvertantly it was an ebay "Buy it now" item and they were using some odd seller name. I know a lot of people who have had problems with them. Also I remember the boycott buy rite site. As much as I felt bad for the guy who ran it, in listening to his audio conversation I also felt bad for the guy working at the store. It's quite possible that at the store level they had no control over what the website did and he just kind of argued with him over and over. In any case I'm glad to see they are out of business.

I'd known of their reputation for a long time, so buying something from them was never really even something I considered.

It was a really nice website though.
