Title: I have found a mystery cable, what is it??!!
Post by: alexsduo on January 19, 2010, 02:04:08 PM
Hi, I found a cable and I have no idea of what it is for!!!

It says on it, P/N 10448-00 Rev B...

One one side it is the 8 PIN Male (like the end of a standard turbo grafx controller)

One side is the 8 pin Male PC Engine side..

So, basically, I have no idea of why this cable exists, I think I got it in a huge bundle of stuff I bought, and the seller had no idea!

thanks for your help, brothers of the hu...

Both ends are male?

I don't know what that would be used for.

Outside of the PCE/TG-16 universe, I'm sure there was a use for a male DIN to male mini-DIN cable.

Yeah, I feel you!  But, I bought a ton of tg stuff of someone, and he included it... so it leads me to believe it is used for something... Maybe to hook an express up to a tg16, as a controller??? Or something like that...

Take a picture of both plugs.

The PCE GT/TurboExpress has jacks for video stuff... perhaps that is what you were thinking of?

Hey, I dunno!  I am not sure that you can output an express to a tv?? I have the tuner, and it allows you to input in, but I dunno about out..

there is the pic, the one on the right is the converter, the one on the left is mystery!

Thanks for the pic.

The pin layout for the cable on the left (mystery) is difficult to discern.

Also, clearly, I'm at a complete loss :(
We need a hardware guru to help us out!

???
The "Tuner In" female socket on the TurboExpress has ~8 pins, IIRC. Have you tried (carefully) to see if the cable fits?

???
I don't have any obscure accessories, but maybe your cable can be used with one of them (i.e. all the "Artist Tool" things, such as the "Illustration Tool").

Its a printer cable (http://www.recycledgoods.com/19995_Verifone_10448-00_8-Pin DIN to 8-Pin Mini DIN Printer to MSR Cable.html), but not sure if the original owner found another use for it.

I'd say that Alexsduo is generally grateful. heh. I wonder if it is an actual pce printer cable though, as in connecting that funky pce printer to the actual pce. :-k

I am totally serious.... I f- around with a lot of things, but NOT video games!!  I searched on google with the part number, and I sat there and looked at the cable and I had no idea what this was for, so maybe the person who sold me a lot of stuff just had it around.... I did not know there was even an pc engine printer.. I guess there is a bunch of crazy Asian accessories, I mean they did make the trance vibrator!!!!

lol! the PC-Engine actually has some sort of vibrator of its own; it's called the virtual cushion. Anyways, here are some links to some cool PCE accessories from some cool site. The site is a bit hard to navigate (being in Japanese and all,)  but it has lots of cool content.
