Title: What a dump...
Post by: offsidewing on March 06, 2010, 10:10:49 AM
So, I feel like "Ling Jr" is one of those annoying co-workers I have to put up with at work.  "Work" in this instance being the world of Turbo Grafx as it exists currently.

The past 10 years or so I normally associate the seller with obnoxious HTML, $563 dollar Duo batteries, and bad grammar.  Not often does this seller post Turbo stuff as they typically, in my experience, sell PCE goods.  What caught me by surprise is not this 74 pound monstrosity, but what would appear to be their office or back room.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEC-PC-ENGINE-TURBO-GRAFX-16-KD863G-RGB-MONITOR-NOT-LT_W0QQitemZ320491106088QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a9ec22f28

I'm not bashing them as a seller, but holy cow that back room looks like Fat Albert's junkyard!  Seriously, does this seller also sell steaks off the gas station's bathroom floor?  Man, take into account the back ground of your photos, especially when $800 of the $876 value of this item is clearly for the loose Keith Courage Turbo Chip.

Well considering not that long ago he had that yellowed thing listed for $1,200-1,400 it's a small (messy) step in the right direction.

Besides it CLEARLY looks a solid 85% new.

hey, cool... I had no idea such a thing existed.  I was even interested until I noticed that there doesn't seem to be an interface port on it anywhere for a CD hookup.  bummer.

As for Ling... I recently ordered a PCE Shuttle game save add-on.  He was priced significantly lower than the other japanese sellers on egay... Just hope it arrives before I shrivel and die.

the thing is a damn fine RGB monitor, but for 900$ I could just jerry rig my own version of that thing and include CD

or I could RGB mod my Duo-R and plug it into an RGB monitor like these 1084s I got sittin here.  :-D

the things officially a useless pile of collectors-penis-enlargement.

I'd be afraid to purchase that sucker.  Might come with some kind of disease.

Maybe its because I'm more of an average gamer than a collector,  :-k but I personally don't like combo stuff like that. If the tube blows, you have one big dead dinosaur. I'm thinking that you couldn't use the PC Engine part at all then.

nah.. too expensive... I'll pass.  :-"

1) I remember, a long time ago, when I thought it was kool to have speakers hanging from the side of a monitor. It was all the rage in the 90's. I had a monitor with speakers similar to that.

2) While I totally understand TurbografxKid's point, I would love to have the auction item. It would be neat :).

It would be a sweet conversation piece and occasional use thing.

but lets face it, playing PCE On a 48" CRT beats that thing around.

I should tie my huge 1980s stereo speakers to my TV to get the full effect maybe. :)

Since 48" direct view CRTs don't exist, you must be talking about a projection tv, which suck and likely couldn't match the picture quality of this 14" tube.  Anyways, a 48" set would be cool to have, though such a beast would be huge and super heavy (400 lbs or more).

You ain't kidding. I was recently shopping for a flat-screen Trinitron. I ended up with a 27" w/factory stand, which was perfect for my gaming room, but they went up to 40" which weighed I think 390lbs. 48" would be well over 500lbs I think.

Would be an absolutely sick classic gaming TV, though.

The biggest set I've ever moved was a 40" Mitsubishi; the dude had it above his fireplace at about shoulder height.  Fun times.

Yeah, projection. Its impossible to move, and frightening to climb on to plug stuff in.

picture quality isn't really bad :-/   I like it.  China Warrior guy is like the size of my torso :D

I still prefer the uhhhh I think its a 32" sanyo.

If only old games looked good on huge ass LCDs.
