Who knew about this?
Still seems quite unfinished. Wonder how far he could bring it in the end?

[10.16.2005] Motivation

1. I want to keep the "Ys book I & II" playable even after my PC Engine is broken.
2. PC Engine hardware is getting very old --> it won't last so long --> only games will remain, but no hardware --> hardware is hardly available --> nobody seems to make alternative PC Engine hardware --> I have to make it
3. There is no PC Engine + CD-ROM^2 system compatible hardware for FREE.
4. I want to make something on weekends.
5. I want to improve my technical skills.

That is interesting.  It would be great to see a well done portable in the vein of the Sega licensed ones.  I don't think it would sell though.

And it would drive up the price of games for the rest of us if it did!

This is pretty cool.  Ki came over to my apartment a couple of times with his FPGA Famicom to demonstrate it.  It was really cool seeing it work.  He said he was also starting work on the FPGA PCE, but it is a lot more complex than the Famicom, so progress will be very very slow.  He does this in his free time and it's a hobbyist thing.  Also, the FPGA Fami required a serial connection for bootup and game loading, so they are not standalone, easy-to-use projects.

Basically, don't expect a ready-built PCE anytime soon, IMO.
