So, this obey thing...
« on: January 17, 2012, 03:40:38 AM »
Where did it come from?  I notice all the super-regulars have a kind of in-joke, but the reason I ask, is that there's a clothing line called Obey.  And naturally, I walk into the store and see to all intents and purposes, PC Engine apparel.  And I'm like WTF O___O.

Obviously I quickly realised that they're probably not linked, but if I find out what they're both about, I might rock a sweater.

It's been used since before I was a member, so I can't really say.  All I know as that the NEC consoles are your master and you must OBEY. :)

On the forums it came from Tatsujin who spent one night watching "They Live".  Then he made his nice little avatar.  Then it just caught on.

"They Live" that is where the theme came from.
It was a film about how a group of Alien beings hide themsleves from humans, and by chance a man found a
stash of glasses that can see past their disguises.

They funny thing was that, the words "OBEY" was hidden in various advertisments, and the aliens lived alongside the humans, without any idea.

It was one of those "Christian Era'' / "political" films. You know the type that made you go outside and think. Like
"Soilent Greens" for example or "THX133".

The PCE has that affect on you. You know?
I see it as the opposite effect.
