Author Topic: Weird Problem with NEC Avenue 6 button pad and Multitap (Read 279 times)

I've noticed a weird problem with my NEC avenue controller and using it on my Duo with a multitap, hitting I and up seems to trigger button 2 and some other weird things eventually causing a pause, this made it a real problem playing Bonk (and going up a waterfall). When I plug the controller directly into the Duo its fine, when I use a normal 2 button Duo pad with while using the tap it's fine. So it's not the controller, it's not the tap, I'm guessing there's some sort of a compatibility issue. And I am using a Japanese PCE tap with my Duo.

I have a Hori 6-button controller, and I get similar problems. I've never used NEC avenue controller, but I found out I had to toggle a switch on the Hori controller from 6-buttons -> 2-buttons. That seem to fix my problems.

Yeah, I have a third party 3-button pad for PCE and there is a similar switch on it. I've never experienced this problem, but then again, I don't use this pad too often. Seems like an experiment is in order!

That happened to me also and I noticed that the setting was on "B" instead of "A" When I switched it back, it was fixed.

What is the A and B button for anyway?

A and B switch the controller from default two buttons to six buttons for games that use it, like Street Fighter II'.

Dan, maybe your controller doesn't plug into the tap the same way it does for the system. Try wiggling the controller end around more while it's in the tap and mess with it and see what else happens. My Avenue Pad 6 has some weird problems and I have to mess around with the port until it works right.

After trying many different configurations, prayers and everything else, it still acts up inconsistantly. I've gone back to just using regular Turbo Pads and the tap. Not all games seem to have problems with the avenue 6 pad I've noticed, but it's still quite obnoxious.
