I see Kickball go for cheap regularly.  If you have a pce tap and a friend (and beer) it's probably one of the funniest games to play.

Street Fighter II (requires a 6 button pad, however, more expensive than the game)
Dragon Spirit
Bomberman
Blodier
Space Harrier
Klax
Volfeid
Ballistix
Soukoban World
Galaga '88
Space Invaders
Chase HQ

All under $5 on Rakuten.  Disclaimer: I haven't played many of these but they seem to all be games you can play without knowing too much Japanese.

<checks eBay> Oh jeez.

I'll admit it's been a couple years, but I paid $9 for a complete Download. Looks like it goes for $30-40 now. I can't remember on Shinobi but I want to say $15-ish in '09.

Yeah, I recall finding a loose copy for around 900 yen but they tend to be a little harder to find outside Japan as Tatsujin mentioned. SSS and Final Solider are much more common.

I was tempted to do a search on rakuten to find Soldier Blade.

I did and it's $47.88.  What's up with this game?

Last year I bought a complete copy of Soldier Blade for 2600 yen or so. This year, I've noticed it's 1000 yen more at the same shop. I guess it's going up in value.

most things going up every year so, not at least because all the gayjins are empty fishing the country (now more and more by online).  and by now even the last shop out in the most far pampa smelt the sweetness of making big bucks with retro stuff the akiba way.

I got a minty complete Soldier Blade for around 2900 yen a couple months ago so they are out there. But I guess you couldnt call it a really cheap game, my mistake. But I occasionally see loosies go for reasonable prices so it's doable if you are patient. I guess it's just one of those titles that is in fairly high demand wherever you are.

Street Fighter, Mr. Heli, R-type, Dungeon Explorer, Legendary Axe I/II and Operation Wolf are all cheap but good titles!
