PC Engine Duo lid not 100% closing
« on: May 31, 2012, 08:57:08 AM »
My on my Duo, the lid dose not stay closed 100%.  It latched shut, but stays up just a tinsy little bit so you hear sounds because the disk isn't held down in balanced when it's shut unless you put a light weight on the lid.

How hard is this to adjust or fix? And will not fixing it cause damage to my games?

Well, the door is not supposed to be a tight fit.  There is a small amount of spring like tension on it.  Not really tension..  Basically, it sits up a very small amount.  You should be able to press it down slightly, and feel the door come back up.  If it is latched, I would say that its closed as it should be.  Do your games load?

One thing you should check is try and push down on the rear and front of the case(not on the CD lid) To see if the scraping sound goes away. It sounds to me almost like what happens if the case is not tightened down all the way.

Yeah the issue disappears then.

Ok, so I tightened the screw and it was fine for awhile, but now the issue came back and the I think the reason is the hole the screw goes into is some what stripped because it dose not tighten all way like the other screws on the unit do.

Is there a way to fix this?  I was thinking maybe filling the screw hole with thick super glue and then screw the screw and let it cure with the case clamped down.  Any other better ideas?

Sounds like the screw hole is stripped. What you need is some thread locks. You should be able to find those in any hardware stores.

Glue will not do it. I have tried that many times. It will just crack apart again. Go to a hardware store and buy yourself some screws that are the same thread or slightly larger with more length. The screw hole is very deep so getting a longer screw will fix the problem even if the top portion is cracked off. This is very common on Duos now days.
