Western Tie-Ins
« on: September 10, 2012, 10:08:39 AM »
So there are a number of games, both released in Japan and the US, that are Tie-ins to Western TV or Film franchises. The ones I am aware of are...

Addams Family
Batman
Darkwing Duck
Die Hard
Knight Rider
Talespin

Well, apart from Batman they all seem to be utter shite.

So my question is, have I missed any and more importantly are there any that are actually good fun to play...?  :-k

These aren't strictly limited to TV or film, but licensed from Western franchises/brands-

Sherlock Holmes CD 1 & 2
Syd Mead's Terraforming
Camp California
John Madden Duo CD Football
Andre Panza Kickboxing
Champions Forever Boxing

Add Baby Jo, Ballistix, Battle Lode Runner, Beyond Shadowgate, Builderland, Davis Cup Tennis, Faceball, Falcon, Ghost Manor, Gunboat, It Came From the Desert, Jack Nicklaus Turbo Golf, Jim Power, Lemmings, Lode Runner, Loom, Order of the Griffon, Prince of Persia, Shadow of the Beast, Sim Earth, Skweek, Slime World, Stratego, Turrican, and Yo Bro to Black Tiger's list of games with western origins but not TV/film related.

I'm pretty sure Die Hard wasn't released in America... :-k

None of the OP's six were released in both regions - Addams Family, Darkwing Duck, and Talespin were TG-16 only; and Batman, Die Hard, and Knight Rider were PCE only.

The titles I listed are brands that existed before becoming licensed games.

Beating Addams Family is OK for a two-hour romp. Tailspin underwater sucks, but the sidescrolling is fine; I like it as much as Donkey Kong Country (not saying much). Darkwing is average but clunky.

The Turbo had lots of below-average games. If you're going to love the Turbo, ya gotta love the duds too!

Nice list.

A few Amiga games I see listed and always hoped a few other games from Europe would have been converted namely Darkmere and Lionheart.

I don't know how wild it is, but Fiend Hunter starts in a saloon IIRC.
