new games for $10 @ game express

Finally got my order from Games Express.  The games looked pretty beat up, but that was because the shrinkwrap was all frayed and scratched up.  After taking off the shrink, the cases and everything looked good.  A few case cracks here and there, but nothing major considering the age of the stuff.

SimEarth was the worse of the bunch.  There was some tape or something sticky on the side and somehow melted to the shrinkwrap which left a yellow nasty goo on the case.  Should be able to clean it off with goo gone or something... or just replace the case entirely.

Overall, not disappointed!

If you're inclined, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the soundtrack. I was disappointed , myself, since I had played SimEarth on a computer with a stinky sound card and the Duo version wasn't much better (as far I could remember, anyhow).

As some posters on this board know, while I am a platformer/RPG guy, I must say that as far as sports games go, TV Sports Basketball is the greatest basketball game. Ever. Period. -Doom

I'm well aware of your love for TV Sports Basketball, Doom :D . In fact, you're the only person to ever get me interested in the game and I can appreciate it a little more now thanks to you.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I played it a little bit over the weekend.  Wasn't really impressed.  I think only one track played the entire time playing the game, so I'm not sure if there are any other tracks.  That one track was pretty forgettable (ambient/moody style), but I guess it's decent for a game like SimEarth.

The things that hurt SimEarth the most is the amount of loading and waiting between selections.  Seems that whatever calculations/simulations it does, it chokes the CPU.

The Duo version of SimEarth is actually the only version I can stand. :)

Why did TTi bother with SimEarth? I would have much rather have seen Populous over here! I guess SimEarth was a "recognizable" brand and they thought it would sell OK, considering that the DUO didn't have any simulation games in its library. I actually like SimEarth (I primarily played it on the computer, though), but I wish TTi passed on it in favor of something else. Oh well, at least it is better than Magical Dinosaur Tour :).

Don't diss Magical Dinosaur Taur, you could've probably figured out that I like that game.
