Multimedia CD possible?
« on: March 12, 2014, 01:33:14 AM »
Just curious....would it be possible to create a Multimedia-CD (not CD+G) for the TG/PCE by oneself?
I mean...something similar to those that came out in the early 90ies?

Do you mean stuff like a lot of the CD-i titles?  It's feasible that someone with coding skills could make such a title (like Magical Dinosaur Tour), but if you mean could any ol' Joe make such a disc, then no.  Other than for music CDs and CD+Gs, the systems don't have internal viewers/players for standard file types.

Well, I thought like a mixture of a Slideshow with Audio, Video, maybe a scrolling text overlay....all navigable thru a menu.

Possible or impossible? Can it be done without coding skills?

It's possible, but not without some code abilities.

Here ya go:

Also see the PCE Catalog titles, Ultrabox titles and stuff like Snatcher Pilot Disk.

It is real software, so you'd need to know how to program for PC Engine to make your own like Chris did.

Possible, but cannot be done without extensive coding skill and experience. The system itself gives you practically nothing to assist with this kind of thing, aside from the CD audio playback. You're on your own aside from that.

Mmmmh. Okay

Is there some kind of tutorial/manual or documents available to get an impression on how much I need to know?

Thanks!

There are tutorials for begginers on obeybrew. The pcefx dev section has lots of useful stuff, but in many different threads. Many threads include responses to the question of how to begin developing for PCE.
