(5/7/2014 - 5/13/2014) Game of the Week: Pyramid Plunder
« on: May 06, 2014, 11:29:22 PM »
---------------------------------------------------
May 7 - May 13: Pyramid Plunder
---------------------------------------------------

(Chosen by Black Tiger)

For those who don't know, Pyramid Plunder is a homebrew game from Aetherbyte, an ethereal group consisting of a few of this forum's own members.

Now, call me a poseur, but I have yet to get my hands on this one personally. I've PMed Arkhan to see if he wants to introduce the game. All I really know is that it's Pac-Man-esque.

Feel free to talk about and introduce it even if you're not Arkhan.  :-"

It's a bit difficult to read the name at the bottom, but here's the link.

It seems like Pac-Man crossed with Gauntlet. Has anyone played it?

its fun.  i like the run mechanic where you cant pick up anything.  adds some good challenge to it.
you either collect or RUN.  cant do both.  i couldnt put it down once i got it.

Try putting the turbo switches in the middle position. That cycles the run/walk flag, allowing you to move a bit faster then normal. If you get 'out-pf-sync' and can't pick anything up, run against a wall for a bit or just stop for a little.

The best strategy for the game is to go for the power-ups early. Learn what does what. They are really most useful on the later levels, but you have to stock up on them in the early levels. IIRC, select will cycle through them, so you can pick the one you want to use :)

I love cycling to the star, then running at the guys and popping it just before I hit them :)

This is our second game, and demonstrates that we did a few things:

1) We found people who can actually do art (Insanity looks hideous, thanks to me!)
2) We added variety to the game :)
3) We polished things up more than last time.

The biggest pain in the ass for that game was either making the maps for the game in a way that wasn't tedious and wasn't easy...

and making songs that sounded Egyptian-y.

I'm still not convinced I did the songs right, lol.
[Fri 19:34]<nectarsis> been wanting to try that one for awhile now Ope

Sadly, I've only played an early demo of Pyramid Plunder. I will have to pick it up along with Atlantean.
