Your favorite time frame as a kid
« on: May 09, 2014, 07:50:35 AM »
and by that I mean the time period you remember enjoying the most as a Kid.

For me it would be 83 to about maybe early 90's, maybe 92/93?

I'm 37yrs old, so I consumed a TON of media during those years. Obviously, the discovery of the PC-E/TG16 is right around them times :D

Gaming wise i would have to say from 98-2004 were some pretty awesome years. Played many great RPGs.

TV wise i would have to say 90's - 2000. So many awesome cartoons like Hey Arnold, Doug (not that disney shit) Ahh real monsters. Then there were awesome shows like Legends of the hidden temple, Nick arcade, My brother and me.

Ha!  Good point, tatsu.  I'm still a kid at heart, and I like the last ten years when I've had enough money to buy stuff I missed out on as a young'un.  But I probably like the late 80s to early 90s more, seeing as I had the free time to play 'em then (10-15 y.o.).

What Necro said!

No doubt having a blast now that I can find and afford all those out of reach gems from back in the day, but this is strictly memory lane stuff.

now im thinking about this thread differently.
frequent skateboarding and gaming is keepimg me young and i have the funds to afford it rather than chores for $$.

i remember a time i wanted NES Batman soooo bad i begged and begged.
my mom took me to get it, BUT i had to stare at it sealed up in my room until it was spotless.  i never cleaned my room faster or with more quality before or after that.

My response is somewhat different, but, by now, entirely predictable.  The favorite time didn't span a range of years or even months.... but a span of hours on days carrying on for years.

yes... between midnight and 4 am Friday through sunday, one could turn the TV to HBO, Showtime, or Skinemax and watch the pr0n through the wavy lines.

Admit it. You did not too (unless your familywas wealthy enough to actually subscribe to those channels) .

My parents went to bed early, so I would sneak downstairs around 11:00-12:00 and watch the Late Movie (or the Late Late Movie). I watched so many awesome films in the 11:00-3:00 am time slot. Usually I fell asleep at some point. It didn't matter. Alone, with the warm glow of the TV, and some bizarre film unfolding before me—holy crap, it was awesome.

I didn't have cable, so this was WPIX, PBS, ABC...

The Third Man
Squirm (?)
Night of the Scarecrow (Australian film, IIRC, love it to death)
Black Orpheus
A Cold Night's Death (another great made-for-TV film)
Beat Street
The Island of Dr. Moreau
The Elephant Man
The Little Girl Who Lives At the end of the Road
David and Lisa
Night of the Bomber (?)
Etc. etc.

My favorite time as a kid would be 1986 (6th grade) - 1991 (10th grade) because (duh!) I was basically forging my own identity and becoming who I am today.

It also was when I had much more freedom to do things—I became more serious about college at the start of  Junior year in high school. It marked the "end" of my pure, simple childhood.

NOTE: I loved the early 80's but felt constrained and lusted for many things. I had no computer, no video game system, no modern stereos, no TV, I had a BANANA SEAT SCHWINN when everyone else had BMX or 10-speed, etc. Etc.

I think the best time was when I was 5 - 11.  This was when I had few cares in the world and the gaming was great (88-94).  I spent so much time on my Apple II C+, Atari 5200, NES, and Gameboy during this period that most of my early memories are of gaming music or nights when I beat a game for the first time.  Also, I was in the arcade EVERY weekend, between the local bowling alley or the camp ground in the summer which had a great arcade.

Once you hit middle school and cliques at school and girls and popularity all become important, life got a lot less simpler.  Things really haven't been simple since to be honest, so I am nostalgic for those days.

85-95 probably...

Admittedly, it was the end of childhood and sliding into adulthood but damn...

Turbo/Amiga/Lynx hot diggity damn
Music metal and then Techno really hit me, love both to this day.
Just a great time.

My absolute favourite time period as far as my gaming life goes is from about 89-98. This period encompassed my favourite consoles and my absolute favourite games. I think the games mags around that time had something to do with me enjoying that period more. There is something to say about anticipating the latest magazine with the latest news rather than having everything instantly available.
