Rik Mayall passes

Quote
Rik Mayall, an irrepressible British comedy legend who was an equal master of brutally intense physical comedy and wry class satire, died at the tragically young age of 56 today of unspecified causes. An enormously influential performer across the pond, Mayall's humor often seemed to play to the lowest common denominator but belied a worldly view of his home country's social dynamics. To Americans, he's probably known best as the star of cult comedy Drop Dead Fred, but there's so much of Mayall worth celebrating today.

If you watched the Young Ones, Bottom, Blackadder or Filthy, Rich & Catflap, you're bummed at the moment!

Wow, this makes me incredibly sad. For such a sweet guy, he was unbeatable when it came to playing absolute bastards.

Gonna have to pull out the Young Ones and Bottom DVDs this weekend, and pick up a case of ale.

I saw this headline this afternoon on my commute home.

It made me sad. Not that I've really watched anything beyond his 1980's stuff, of course.

Don't know too much about him other than he played Drop Dead Fred. I loved that movie when I was little.

*sadness*

Hahahaha.

ASIde: I love the Human League, so of course I loved when Rick played the album for a "party"...and Vivian promptly trashed the LP and record player.

TO ALL: I rewatched the episode ("Bells") of Black Adder where Rik appeared in the last 10 minutes as "Lord Flashheart"....this was one of the better episodes, in general; it was funny in middle school and it remains funny today.

I guess I'm one of the few that haven't seen DDF and only knew Rik on the telly.

I had a Young Ones marathon earlier and I now wonder how the kids are.

I vaguely remember the trailer for DDF on VHS rental back in early 90's. That's it.

TV stuff is all I know. PBS played it all, thank god, in late 80's/early 90's.
