I'm not sure if you guys have checked this out, but this app is really cool. Let's you draw, speak, or photograph Japanese and it will translate it to English. Its done a damn fine job on the menus for blood gear. Check it out :D

Cool. I figured a lot of folks here could get a lot of use from it. From using it with Blood Gear last night I find that it work best for translating menus and items, where there are singular words.

I used it on the written dialogue portion and wasn't as effective, because there is multiple ways to group the characters. If the games text spacing is funny it seemed like it struggled to group phrases properly. But you can override it's default grouping and highlight groups of characters any way you want.

Anyhoo.... It still worked well enough on the dialog that I could get the gist of the convo.

Very cool!  I'll tinker with this soon. Maybe now I'll be able to play Master of Monsters. :)

Yeah, that's a cool thing about a tablet, you can take a photo of text in a foreign language from a sign, a videogame, etc. and use a Translate app that'll OCR the text and translate it. It's meant for travel in foreign countries, you walk around with the tablet, snap a photo of a sign, and boom, get it translated right before you. You still have the weakness of software translations sucking, Engrish and all that, but it's better than nothing and the simple stuff works out OK.

In case anyone is wondering, this is Google's app, and uses the same translation engine as translate.google.com. Still, good stuff. Anyone compare it with S Translate, Samsung's version?

There's an app (for iOS I know for sure; not sure if it's on Android also) called WordLens that does something similar - only difference is it actually physically pastes the translation onto the sign in a kind of augmented reality thing...it's really cool when it works, and kind of hilarious when it doesn't.

Currently it only does Latin-based character set languages, but it's worth a shot if you can get it free/cheap.
