PCE Duo-R won't power on?
« on: August 11, 2014, 08:04:41 PM »
Well it's been a LONG time since I have been on here, recently I have gotten the itch back to try and pick up where I left off with my gaming collection. I pulled out my N64 and finished the RGB amp and got it going good. Went today to look at an old Sony Trinitron about two hours down the road and brought my Duo-R for a test subject and the dang thing would not turn on. It has been in a box since last I used it and has been moved from place to place about 6 times. Sat in storage (climate controlled mind you) and is finally going to have a room of its own. I already started with my multimeter to trace the problem but figured I would see if any of you guys have had similar issues with the Duo-R not powering on.

I don't know if any of the original guys are still here that I used to talk to but if you are I'd like to say hi and try to squeeze back in everyonce in awhile to see whats going on. Blueraven, nightwolve, charlie and a few others I can't remember ya'lls user names.

Thanks for any help and I hope for a slightly warm welcome, I know I left out of here in a hurry and never really showed back up.

EDIT: The dang unit ended up powering on when I tried it just now after testing the power caps to see if they were faulty. Maybe they just needed a bit of time to recharge or something. Played a level or Lords of Thunder! now time for bed....

Double check the 7805 voltage regulators. Makes sure they are both putting out 5V. Also, Maybe you already checked this but DUO-R systems are notorious for needing AV jacks resoldered due to cracked solder joints.

I'll pass my multimeter over the voltage regulators just to double check em, if it stays working then I gots no clue other than the caps just needed to warm up or I was trying it out on a tv I was unfamiliar with and maybe just maybe I didn't even have it on the right input (it was a confusing tv if you can believe that).

Yeah I had to resolder the power input legs cause of that issue and the AV jack got replaced when I did the RGB mod but if I remember right it was also cracking too.

Thanks for the input! So who does console repairs around these parts nowadays? I might be interested in offering my services again. I still have tons of caps and chips from way back when I used to do it!
