NEC PC FX WORTH IT OR NOT?
« on: July 27, 2006, 05:32:07 AM »
Hi to everyone I am new to this forum (group) and just want to say hello to everyone and ask some quick questions. Just like most all new members hear I am new to the NEC PC FX, but I am not new to NEC overall. I have the NEC Turbo Express, Turbo Grafix 16, & the Turbo DUO (ALL U.S. VERSIONS). To my point I am thinking of getting a NEC PC FX, for $118.00(U.S.) with shipping from Japan. The thing is there are lots of reasons why I do not want to get one, but there are more reasons why I do. One of the main reasons I do is because the collection of video games for the NEC PC FX is not that big something like 62 games made for it or so. Also it is a system that at one time was sold in Japan ONLY and was in the homes of a lot of Japanese people this makes me want it because it was, and in a way it kind of still is a JAPAN ONLY system and just that for me makes it worth getting. Also it’s from NEC and I love my NEC. If you are like me and do not know any Japanese, NEC PC FX games would be just for collection and not for playing  but for the exception of a few games for the NEC PC FX. And that is one of the reasons I do not want to get a NEC PC FX. Also god forbid the system needs repair where would one get that done? Turbo Zone Direct hear in California (USA) does not deal with the NEC PC FX at all. Any words of encouragement  from the members hear on the forum that have the NEC PC FX that can give me reasons why I should (Or should not) get a NEC PC FX will be a big help to this new member (ME).

THANK YOU ALL

I bought my PCFX for many of the same reasons yo mentioned about.  It was my dream to own the 32bit console from NEC and spend countless hours with it just like I did(and still do) with my TurboDuo..  Well, I would have to say that is NOT the case.

I do enjoy the system, and recommend buying one, just don't expect the same typed of experience that you have shared with your Turbo.  A majority of the games released are Heavy into the Japanese text.  Very few releases are pick up and play.  I own a couple games, and I can say that I enjoy them, but NEC went in a complete different direction when producing games for the PCFX.

I say yes, but it may collect dust~  Still cool to collect for though!:)

Its such an awesome looking console, but i cant see myself spending much time playing it. Thats the main reason i havnt justified buying one. I may pick one up in the future when i improve my japanese.

You pretty much answered the question yourself.

This is a NEC system, which makes it sexy and appealing at first sight. But most games require some (a lot of) Japanese knowledge. If you're a japanim fanboy and don't mind spending money for the sake of collecting "interactive" movies, then go for it. If you expect the same kind of gaming experience the PC Engine gave you, you'd better pass. I mean it.

Hi,

Thanks turbo_sage, grahf, and Kaminari. I do plan to buy the system just to say I have it. The NEC PC FX is a good system to have just because a lot of people do not own it (In the U.S. that is). Another reason like I said before on this post is because the collection of games there is for the system (About 62 or so). So for me this makes it more simple to collect NEC PC FX games compared to the NEO GEO AES/MVS 100+ games for the Japanese and English AES/MVS systems, that go for $50.00, $100.00, and even $700.00 (Metal Slug 1 U.S. AES, goes for $1000.00-U.S.). So even if the games for the NEC PC FX where worth as much as the NEO GEO games it would not be a big deal (To my wallet) due to the fact that there is not so many games for the NEC PC FX that one can buy and/or even find. As for playing games on the NEC PC FX, YES I do look forward on playing the games on the NEC PC FX, at lest the ones that one can with out knowing Japanese, and that’s if I can find any of this type of games. I ordered my 1st NEC PC FX game today. The game is Der Langrisser. I would like to ask is this game a rare hard to find game? Or is it one of those more easy to find NEC PC FX games? Once again thank you all for your help and feedback on the NEC PC FX and it’s games.

THANK YOU ALL
