Repair/ Replace advice?
« on: April 08, 2015, 12:16:02 PM »
My Turboduo has recently been giving me some trouble. I had it recapped and region modded last year by Keithcourage here, and it's been great. Gomola Speed and multiplayer bomberman are like crack to me haha. The sound has been a little "buzzy" (I cant remember when it started), but recently it has gotten really bad, so I only play on mute. Does this sound like an easy/relatively cheap sort of fix? I know the caps going bad affect the sound, but they're relatively new, so I was wondering if something else could be causing it? I've done some mod/repair work on gameboys/segas/snes, but I'm pretty wary of opening my duo. Since it's expensive, and I'm unfamiliar with it/how its modded, I'm unsure about what to do...

Also, I've heard Turboduos aren't the most reliable iteration of the system, so would you all recommend selling it and getting something else? IDK what all the versions of the systems are going for now.  I play it pretty often, and have several CD games as well.

do you have another cable to try?  could possibly be an issue with the cable having a loose connection.  or does it do it out of both the headphone jack and the av port?

The leaky caps is why I think people would say they are unreliable.  After replacement, they should be a pretty solid system.

Audio is buzzy? Do you mean distorted or fuzzy? Could be that some traces have gone bad from the original caps prior to when I recapped it and didn't give out until recently. I'm sure it would be an easy/quick fix for me to find out which traces have gone bad since then. Feel free to ship it back to me to check it out for you.

Send it back to Keith, let him sacrifice a goat and work his magic for you.

Thanks! Good to hear that the caps are the major issue with it and that it should be pretty solid with them fixed! I like the look of the duo vs the regular system with CD, so I'm glad no one recommended trading it in!
