US CD games: which did and did not have boxes?
« on: January 02, 2016, 04:19:15 AM »
So, this came up over on Racketboy, and I didn't have a good answer, though I did have a couple corrections for the poster's partial list. Some Turbo CD games came in boxes and others did not. Which games didn't come in boxes, just in a jewel cast, and which did have an external box?

Exile: Wicked Phenomenon was a SCD and it had a box. Had a gold banner across the top and a raised/bumpy cover.

No, it and Vasteel only have a cardboard sleeve like SuperGrafx games.

All other CD2 games except Buster Bros and Splash Lake and fake SCD games came with a cardboard box.

I am sure we have a thread that explains this...

...but finding it would have been more effort than it was worth.

SPENOZA...the shift to to NO BOXES for CD games coincided with TTi's related cost-saving feature: NO JEWEL BOXES for HuCARD games (just plastic tray).

Thanks for the reminder, BT. Exile WP had a sleeve instead of a box.

I can confirm Vasteel US had only the cover, mostly black with shiny foil color and raised lettering. I used to have it until some rat decided to piss on it last year  :(

Isn't Terraforming a CD-2 and not an SCD?

Yep.  It and Sherlock 2 are the fake SCDs, branded as SCD but only CDs at heart.
