Ys I-II Disc Variations
« on: December 11, 2015, 02:47:13 PM »
Okay so probably a dumb question but here goes...

I am aware of the difference between the pack-in and the prior release. What I was wondering about is I have seen a variation on the duo pack-in version where sometimes the disc says MADE IN JAPAN and then on other copies it says MADE IN USA. I was wondering, are both legitimate?

I recently bought the game on Ebay (hasn't arrived yet), here is the listing I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321941368858?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It looks good to me, but I am by no means an expert on Turbo games.

Tia.

The gouging thread has a bootleg Duo-pack-in version that was posted a couple months ago.

A pressed CD? I stand corrected then.

Yeah I remember that, it was super obvious I believe.

I'm seeing plenty of both discs of the pack-in on Ebay. My guess is one was a later release but I was hoping someone older might know more about it.

I look forward to playing these games in the best possible way in English (sorry DS and PSP, not sorry at all Master System), I was just worried there was a small chance it was fake.

Turbo CD is definitely the way to play these gems! That haunting music plays in my head everytime I see "Ys."

It is legitimate, and I think the manuals have a similar note (printed in Japan or USA).  Years ago, one of the few things Roy did that wasn't a slap in the face was to document the various differences in the pack-in versions, but I don't know if his pics are still available anywhere.

Yeah I couldn't pass up on it for that price, and I've been wanting to get this version for awhile. The guy had some other decently priced stuff up as well (Drac X, Popful Mail).

Interesting. If anyone has those please post. Google searching wasn't very productive for any kind of comparison pics (tried that before making this thread).

There isn't much else to know or document. The pack-in discs either say make in the USA or made in Japan. The nearly identical pictures of two discs some guy in Nevada owned six years ago weren't terribly interesting then and probably aren't now. I'm sure if you put your wallet to it you'll be able to find both versions on EBAY.

Okey doke. Wasn't sure if there were other random inconsistencies. And I'm sure I could, but what would I be doing with another copy of the game? XD
