New member here. Whats up guys?
« on: March 30, 2016, 03:01:23 PM »
Hey guys, my name is Ryan and im a long time gamer. I started gaming way back in the 80s and owned just about every system aside from the 3DO and CDI. I sold and traded just about all my games and systems except for my arcade cab and my dreamcast. All these years there have only been two systems that I really miss, 1. is my Neo Geo and 2 is my TG16. Since my arcade cab has an MVS board I figured I might as well satisfy my yearning for my old TG16. Anyway Im in the process of trying to find a DUO although way back when I had my TG16 when it first came out I always lusted after the CD attachment so I thought about getting the TG16 with the CD attachment to fulfill my childhood fantasies.

I seen an neo-geo.com  member here so this place must be the place to be for pcengine gaming lol. Also I am pleasantly surprised that Joe is a moderator here. Im a pretty big fan of gamesack.

Welcome, comrade. :)

3DO: It's been awhile since I have picked up any 3DO games (I will), but..,

TG-16: what are some TG-16 games you enjoy and/or genres you are interested in?

I'm glad you kept the Dreamcast. So awesome. It's my favourite. (don't tell anyone)

Not cool enough to the point where you'd name your first-born Trip. Loved the daisy chain thing, though.

Welcome to the forum and I can understand your TG16 cd fantasy lol.  I grew up with that setup and just last year was able to reacquire it.  Not the most economical route to go but it's a great classic setup.

I been getting more and more curious about neo geo and it seems most PCE fans are into most of the niche consoles like the Saturn, Neo Geo, etc.  I been trying to avoid it because of cost but may have to look into it in the future.

Just do what I did. Buy an old arcade cab then get am MVS board for it. MVS Neo Geo games sell for far far far less then the home counterparts, pretty much nothing is out of reach financially with MVS. You should br able to score and old arcade cab from craigslist, the MVS you can get online. Just be sure you get a JAMMA cab. Thats pretty much the standard so that wont be hard. They may have MVS to home converters now, in my day they had them but they were not very reliable.

I have to say, my all time favorite game has to be Bonks Adventure. Thats what kind of got the ball rolling on this whole deal. I played Bonks on the Wii a few weeks ago and had it was just as amazing and fun as I remember it, every single time I play that game its fun for me and very nostalgic all at once. I dont have much experience with the CD games so I dont have any on my fav list yet but here are a few I remember from my collection that I will be buying back

Ninja Spirit. Total classic
Splatterhouse. Who doesnt love this
Military Madness. At first I was like WTF as I never played a TBS game before, then I got hooked!
R-Type. Loved it in the arcade, got it for free with proof of purchase of my TG16. First thing I ever had mailed to me with my name and not my parents!
JJ and Jeff. dont ask me, I just like it the controls are tuff but I find the game amusing.

Of the games Ive played these are my favs and they are the ones I will go for first and the only ones I would buy CIB if given the chance. I would even get them seal  :-# If I already owned an open copy that is.

I already have one game for my collection.... Fighting Street! I saw it in a thrift store back in 97 or 98 and bought it lol!

PS rondo of blood will definitely get purchased. I remember seeing pic in GAMEFAN magazine and praying it would be released here even though I didnt have the CD add on.

I would suggest contacting Keith courage. And getting a JP DUO that is region modded to play US Hue cards (CD are non region specific.) and he can do other mods like S video/ect.

The TGCD is pretty epic, but costs more, than a DUO would and the DUO does not need a 3.0 card like the TG16 does.

Just makes it easier to play super CD games out of the box.

Welcome though. I do like arcades, and TG stuffs.
Switchzx's amazing quote -
"I was starting with the hardest to get games first. I realized I was never going to get Magical Chase so gave up on it all, sold up and got out."

Blueraven's quote - "it begins."

first thing I did when I signed up was got in contact with him. I was directed to him specifically from a facebook group I am a part of. He has quite the reputation. Im going to go with the duo and try to catch a TG16 out in the wild. If I get one cool if not it will be fun to try.

Welcome Khyron!

You must be a Robotech fan. Robotech was my fav when I was a kid.

Have fun with all the turbo madness! I was in your spot (rekindled Turbo love) a year or so ago, but I still had my Turbo and my Neo CD.

Neo CD is also a cheaper alternative to AVS, but there are still some pricey discs. Warning: Load Times. Some games are awful, others are barely noticeable. Samurai Showdown 2 CD arranged soundtrack is worth the purchase.
Keith Courage is #1. Alpha Zone inhabitant for life. Thanks to this forum for rejuvenating and continuing my interest in all things Obey.

Yeah, facebook groups. Im trying to network so I dont have to have my butthole reamed out at ebay all the time. I prefer my poop chute the diameter that it is currently at lol.

Yup, Robotech fan checking in. I even have the series on laserdisc! That led to Macross! Yeah, Neo CD would be cool to collect if you were looking for something different. I got lucky. I sold all my Neo gear for a princely sum and just bought a dope candy cab with a 4 slot MVS. Hopefully this will rekindle my retro game love. I need more JAMMA boards for sure!
