That's the one.

Thanks, I already bought a HOP-M3 from the link at the beginning of the thread. Just curious is their any improvement or for that matter success with CDR play backup, I have a number of scratched discs (and then backups of said discs) and my Duo is quite atrocious at reading CDRs which is the primary reason I'm buying this (that and preventative maintance I suppose).

Well Dan, from my understanding, the data written on cdrs is generally at a different distance from the lense than on pressed cds. Most lenses can move to compensate, but some (usually older ones) are unable to adjust. Since most people are able to play CDRs, i would assume that a new lense would fix it. The data on CDRs is also generally not as "crisp" as pressed ones, so a lense in less than optimal shape would have trouble with it for that reason as well.

I tried to install the laser on an original Japanese Duo (not a Duo-R or RX), but it doesn't seem to work.  I didn't pull out any of the wires, though I did expose one a little towards the point where its attached to the plug.  Gray Duos don't have the same mainboard setup as the Duo-Rs, so the picture they used on their website doesn't really explain to me where the third plug that must be pulled is located.  Here, I'll show you the image I'm referring to:

The one that says "Pull this first" isn't on the regular Duo, at least not as far as I can see.

So what ends up happening is that I put in a CD, it spins for a short while, emitting a high-pitched whine, and then it stops and says "Please set the disc!"  Help!
