RaspberryJAMMA or GroovyMAME setup
« on: June 20, 2016, 08:32:52 AM »
Tired of using my pandora 3 and want a better solution. Right now i currently use a supergun (Vega jr.) with two PVMs, one being TATE (RGB) and one normal (S-video). I'm not really familiar with MAME, or Raspberry Pi, and I'm not sure what would be the better solution.

As for games, i intend to play CPS 1,2,3 stuff, some NEO stuff, and some shmups. I also want to possibly stream the content in the future. What do you guys feel will be a better setup to use. All advice is appreciated

I recently bought a raspberry pi 3 and it was really easy to setup with retropi. Them emulation works quite well, although I haven't been able to really put it through the paces. I never played a lot of arcade games growing up so I probablly wouldn't know if they were poorly emulated if it wasnt something that is completely obvious. If you want to stream then a PC will probably be your best bet. MAME on PC can emulate the CRT feel better although it takes a lot of work to get it right. Lastly, you have to get the correct romset for the version of MAME you want to use. It is not like other emulators in that regard. The internet archive acrually hosts MAME torrents btw.

Those MAME hsl and gsl shaders are nice, but they'll never make it look like a crt.  In the long run I think GroovyMame is the way to go.  A hassle to set up at first with CRT_Emudriver over retropi but better results if using a real monitor.  If you already have an older ATI and win7 or later, you are already good to go.  I even got GroovyMame working with Win10 and running to my pvm with CRT_Emudriver.

A buddy of mine has a PC with a arcadeVGA 3000 card. No ATI card, but i could get one on ebay for the cheap. I may have to hit you up if i get lost. Hes going to let me test the PC and see if i can get the setup working correctly

arcadevga is a waste of money.  I got a ati radeon for $10.  Then installed the card followed by the crt_emudriver drivers.
