Going to be buying some PCE CD games soon and wanted your guys' opinions on some of the ones I'm looking at.

Far East Of Eden : Tengai Makyo Kabuki Den
Dynastic Heroes
Bukkiriman World CD
Record of Lodoss War
Shin Megami Tensei
The Legend of Xanadu
Ys 4 : Dawn of Ys

Most of these are being offered for a pretty cheap price. I played the two "Wonderboy" games on the SMS and Genesis back in the day and I LOVE WONDERBOY. I also like classical RPGs, so most of these seemed right up my alley. The Megaten game was a natural purchase, as I love SMT: Nocturne and Persona's atmosphere and presentation.

Ys IV is the best game on the system in my opinion. Über good game and if you're going to play Ys on PCE - it should be this one. It has been translated too.

I have only played The Dynastic Hero*, Record of Lodoss War, Shin megami tensei and The Legend of Xanadu on that list, and I say avoid them all. Not worth playing.

*You said you loved Wonder Boy - do yourself a favor and avoid this one. They took out all the good and replaced it with bad.

Kabuki Den - Fantastic RPG.  Lots of crazy stuff and memorable moments, especially towards the end.  There's a great walkthrough up at GameFAQs for it.  If you don't know Japanese, the menus might be a little tough to figure out at first, but after that, it's smooth sailing.

Dynastic Hero - If you like Wonderboy/Dragon's Curse, then you can't go wrong here.

The Legend of Xanadu - Wonderful action-RPG that alternates between overhead and sidescrolling parts.  It's very long and very challenging, especially if you don't know any Japanese.  The second one is also magnificent, and is much shorter and easier.

Ys 4 - Lots of people like this, but I don't.  Not nearly as good as I & II.  It doesn't have the same feel and the soundtrack is very disappointing if you've experienced I & II's.

Far East Of Eden : Tengai Makyo Kabuki Den - I have been playing this game and have almost beaten it and it's a fantastic RPG as Runin pointed out. I don't know any Japanese, but it feels like I am playing this game in English - not exagerrating. :)

Dynastic Heroes - Excellent port of a excellent game. There are quite a few changes from the Genesis version and they are for better and for worse, but it really depends on your opinion. I personally like it a little more because of the graphics and music, but people like Seldane will disagree. Regardless, it's worth getting if you're a fan of the series.

Bukkiriman World CD - Haven't played, but I have seen the video on The PC Engine Software Bible and it looks very interesting, though boring. I'm not sure what the point is, but you just talk to a bunch of crazy people.

The Legend of Xanadu - Very original and fun game and I highly recommend it if you are into action-RPGs. The overhead scenes can be a bit boring though since you have to go from town-to-town talking to people until you get to the dungeon, but it's overall a lot of fun. The side scrolling parts are fantastic.

Ys 4 : Dawn of Ys - I never understood how runin couldn't get into this game, but I love it and it's just as good as I & II in my opinion, though they do have a different pace to them. To me, Ys IV feels more like I & II than any other game in the series because of you receive a lot of the same items and weapons as long as revisiting some special places in Ys I & II and shares a few familar tunes. Don't get me wrong, I like I & II more, but IV is fantastic and gives you more to explore. Great gameplay (improved controls and bosses, in my opinion), graphics, music, and adventure, this game can't be passed up.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

"lots of people"? Hehe, I say almost everyone (PCE  or Ys fan that is). I say *almost*, because there are few exceptions :D

Btw, did you play it in English? Just curious.

I beat Legend of Xanadu I back in the day. I have to say I came to love this game after getting into it, even after beating Emerald Dragon first. I wasn't a huge fan of chip music, but this one grew on me.

Bukkiriman World CD

I have to warn you about this one. Knowledge of Japanese is essential to play - I say play, but it's more of an 'information' dictionary thing than an actual game. You just keep clicking on things to see some admittedly funky and quirky pictures, but you won't have a clue what you are doing.
I put a video of it up on Youtube so you can see what I mean:

Also, given the choice, I'd go for Xanadu II over the first, it's absolutely brilliant.

And if you love Wonderboy, get TAKAHASHI MEIJIN NO SHIN BOKEN JIMA (aka Super Adventure Island) on Hucard. It's essentially a remake and is great.

Wow, paul. I thought that Bukkiriman World was the port of Wonder boy in Monster Land featured here:

To be sure, here's the cover for the game. Which one is it? The Info-tainment software or the port?

That's the info one I was talking about - Bikkuri Man Daijikai.
The conversion of Wonder Boy 2 is called Bikkuri Man World and is on card only.

Yeah, years ago a friend of mine ordered it because it was listed as 'Wonderboy' and sent it back straight away when he found out what it was.
