TG16 White Screen bone stock
« on: July 09, 2017, 08:56:39 AM »
Hey all,

I picked up a broken TG16 for cheap and have been trying to get it up and running. No matter what game I put in, I only get a white screen. Looks similar to the screen for a wrong region game.

Console has no mods, first time being opened up. Nothing obvious is jumping out at me. Previous owner said occasionally they would get a picture and sound.I tried swapping to a known good cart connector, no luck there. So it's not the cart slot. Any thoughts are appreciated.

If the board hasn't been cracked anywhere and there's no mods, odds are very good some chip has failed. I'm not familiar with the logic involved with the card slot, but for your sake, I hope there's a discrete logic chip in the way, those are easy to replace. The custom Hudson CPU and graphics chip are not replaceable without a donor TG16/PCE console.

Yeah I am assuming a chip failure. I have the schematics so I will be going through them.

usually it's a bad Hu6280 chip.

That's exactly the one I was wondering about. I did notice that it gets hotter than the other chips, but wasn't sure if it was normal.

I'm not too sure about the temps on it. I just know that most of the time if the hu card slot pins are fine then the Hu6280 chip is typically the culprit.

Well I have a broken unit coming to swap the chip off of. I will post up results after doing so.

Well the broken console I picked up was in better overall condition so the customer asked me to fix the new one instead, it just had a broken power switch and looked basically new. So I did not end up replacing the 6280, but I agree with the statements that it most likely was the part at fault. Thanks for the tips everyone!
