Super Cdrom2 RGB mod
« on: February 18, 2024, 10:56:51 AM »
Hi all,

Is there a thread on how to change the 5 pin din to an 8 pin with an rbg mod and amp, also so there a recommended supplier to get the components from?

Thanks!

Pretty much the same as a DUO as far as the DIN 8 port is concerned. But then you need to tap the video signals from the Expansion port pins.

Here is a diagram of the expansion port pins.

Another thing of note is that the Din port on the super cd rom doesn't have 5V going to pin 4 like a DUO does. So you will have to solder a wire there and get 5V from somewhere. I just grab is straight from the 7805 voltage regulator but I'm sure there are other spots that can be used.

There is an open solder jumper 'J1' on the PCB bottom near the DIN connector. If you bridge it, you have +5V on Pin4 as usual ^^

Thanks both!  The picture looks a bit dark to me, all the colours are correct but the brightness/contrast looks "wrong", if that makes sense - any suggestions? Thanks again!

You have to add a RGB amp, as with all PCE RGB mods.
I've done my own THS7374 amp a while ago, based on Voultar's schematic (Link). You can download the gerbers and find some installation pictures incl. a SCDROM

There?s an Rgbamp added.  Rgb and 5v are all there, must be something I?m missing.
Thanks

It was down to the retrotink, put it through the tv and it looks stunning and not dark at all.

Thanks for you help and info both, really appreciated.
