Just tried this out and it works great. The full battle music is pretty good.

Not related to this change but I also noticed that the title screen music also stops once you select the first member of your party to start to game. Same sound effect as when you would kill someone during battle. Not a big deal since this is only at the beginning of the game but funny that any sound effect seems to kill the music everywhere in this game. lol

You would think something like that would have been caught and fixed before.... being released.

I have a “theory” (AKA bullshite fantasy) that this was not a mistake. Instead, it was an intentional “hack” intended for development only (everyone was sick of listening to the music) offering mercy on folks as they tested the game.

This music override hack was accidentally left in the game, though, marring an otherwise fine experience on TG-16...

Anyone know where I can download just the music files for this game?  I've looked everywhere and no one seems to have just the music files for download.

Unfortunately the people doing most of the hes rips seem to be only interested in Japanese games.

not possible, OOtG's soundtrack is supreme.  I could listen to it for ages and never stop.. I wouldn't want to.
