You know, it was funny.

I first read through this thread yesterday and it was the first time I'd ever heard of Bomberman Act Zero (also read the linked article).

Almost immediately afterwards I went over to my cousin's house for a family Easter get together. He was showing me some of his new Xbox 360 games, he had about 7 or so he'd just picked up that day. After thumbing through things like Gears of War and a few others, what did I find at the bottom of the pile? Lo and behold, it was Bomberman Act Zero. He hadn't even taken the shrinkwrap off yet.

I laughed at him and told him to take it back and exchange it for something else before he opened it and it was too late.

I almost held back though and made him open it so I could play it and see how bad it really sucked. I was so tempted.
You are a kind soul. I would have opened it and said, innocently: "This looks kool. Let's give it a spin!"

I would've liked to have had a real bomberman game in that art style

You know what? I'm cool with that. Call it Crisis Run, Detonator, anything like that. Just don't call it Bomberman, because THAT'S NOT BOMBERMAN, it goes against EVERYTHING BOMBERMAN.

Also, if you want a REAL Bomberman game thats good, check out the PSP and DS versions...

Yeah, but by that logic, most 3D Zelda's should called "Interactive Dungeon Films: Vol 1, 2, etc..." and anything after Metal Gear 2 should called "Interactive Non-Action Films".

Which would be fine by me though... even though the "Interactive" monicker is misleading.

But as gimped as Bomberman Zero is supposed to be, its one of the most faithful modern franchise installments around, gameplay and aesthetics-wise.

And at least there's some semblence of an actual game/gameplay in there.

I don't see your point, as mine were cool action-movieish titles that happen to mention explosives or panic not the game, while yours are the descriptors of an EGM review.

What are you talking about? There are almost no cutscenes in the 3d Zelda games. Take Star Ocean Till the End of Time for example, now THAT's a game full of cutscenes.

Although I wasn't talking strickly intentional cut scenes, Zelda TP is Dragon's Lair with a bunch of driving segments inbetween.

Phantom Hourglass looks like it'll be the first 3D Zelda to feature Zelda-like gameplay(in the dungeons at least).

My point was that although gimped in a few ways, at least Bomberman 0 features Bomberman gameplay, where as most game series try harder and harder with every update to be as different as possible to their origins.

BlackTiger, you made a good point about Bomberman: at least they tried to stick to the original gameplay... but it strikes me as an experiment we should have seen on the N64 years ago, not on the Xbox360 in 2006.
