I thought I read somewhere that Nintendo would supply you with new copies of downloaded VC titles if for some reason you had to replace your Wii.

Of course it's not. I'm simply curious to what a Wii SD card would look like in Windows Explorer as I do not have a Wii and thus cannot check this myself.

I know it showed up on my Mac (when I tried it long ago). Can't remember what the contents looked like, though.

What would be interesting is to copy the files of the Wii SD card to another SD card, put THAT card in the Wii and see if it works (if the DRM was copied to the card or not).
