ridiculous price ??
« on: October 30, 2007, 03:19:14 AM »
I was planning on putting maybe $350-$400 on this auction  .. but look at it now.. Geez !

There are barely any rare games in there.  Sure a handful of the titles are pretty in demand (Ys, Military Madness) but there's nothing in there you couldn't find elsewhere.

and then there are those "CD only" games listed at the bottom..  you know they are just burned CDs..   the seller can't call it what they are because, obviously,  it's illegal to sell bootleg games (and who the hell would buy them if they could??)

Compared to other eBay auctions, that auction actually isn't out of this world. You have people selling boxed US Duo's by themselves for $600+. There was one up for a while at $999.99 (might still be). By eBay standards, a Duo + 38 games for $521 is actually one of the better deals.

Sad that a good eBay deal, in the real world, is a total rip-off.

well sure..  but the difference is no one is actually moving the machines they are pricing at $600.

I guess it all depends if that stuff really is "mint".

call me old fashion but I'd rather spend a good solid year + tracking down good deals on games then buying an overpriced lot (of crap - half of those games are shitty PC Engine CDs you couldn't get $5 for)

maybe I'm just jealous      #-o  ](*,)

Don't get me wrong. I would never buy that. Like I said, in the real world, whoever won the auction got ripped off. You could probably pick up all those titles individually fairly easily and spend less.

So a loose game must be a CD-R, eh?

$521 really isn't that bad a price.  37 games at an average of $10 each + $150 for a complete Duo, an extra controller, and a tap = $520.  Most of the games are US titles, so an average value of $10 each is a pretty good deal.

I doubt it, especially once shipping is figured in.  Maybe you have a local store selling TG-16 goods at reasonable prices, but most don't have that luxury.

I'm 100% sure those loose games are CD-Rs (I asked).

is there a website that lists past video game auction results?  In the record collector world we have one (popsike.com)

just curious

I do.  :)

Beyond that, I tend to try to buy only when good deals pop up on the forums here or Turbo List. Occasionally I will buy from the 'bay if there is a reasonable deal (like the lot of US games I just bought at $4.99/piece).

Well then, I hope the buyer anally rapes this douche and gets a healthy chunk back from paypal (even loose, Dracula X and Beyond Shadowgate would fetch a decent sum).

I don't know of any, other than the obvious: completed ebay auctions.

I think you're confusing Beyond Shadowgate for Return to Castle Shadowgate.

Seriously though, that auction got bid up extra high because of its misleading description. If the seller wanted to send along unmentioned bonus cdr games, then so be it. But to list them in the description at all, serves only to to increase the percieved value of the lot.
