need help with my Turbo Express
« on: May 07, 2008, 12:53:53 PM »
hey all, i need some of your expertise with this.  i have a tv tuner and my express and would like to use it as a monitor.  while in the states recently, i bought a cable from radio shack ($25! yikes) which was 1/8 inch on the end for the tuner and standard a/v on the other side (red/white/yellow). well, it didn't quite work as the image i got was scrambled. the cable worked only when i inserted in 3/4 of the way in. fortunately, i was able to return it and am back to square one. can anyone help with this? is there a specific cable out there someone can point me to? the TML had a few helpful replies but they involved modding which i would prefer not to do.
 anyone?

I don't have a tuner for my TurboExpress, but I do have one for my Game Gear.  On the GG, you need a regular headphone to RCA adapter (similar to what you have but two plugs instead of three.) The tuner only accepts mono sound, so this works out.  You just have to figure out which plug is for video and which is for audio.

I'd be willing to bet the TE is the same way, since it sounds like the video connection on the cable you have doesn't make contact unless it's about halfway out.

Yeah George what JKM said is spot-on. The "half-way out" syndrome is what happens when you use a stereo cable in a mono jack.

thanks guys! now, where can i get one of these cables?  radio shack seemed to have only that stereo cable.  i don't think the pal cables sold here in greece would work.

Nearly any electronics store would have it. Radio Shack, Best Buy, even Walmart probably carries it.  You're looking for something like this:
