Ys IV Patch Guidance
« on: October 09, 2008, 11:42:15 AM »
Hey everyone,
I just tried to respond to the other "Ys IV Patch" thread, and I was advised that since that topic was over 120 days old, it may be better to simply start a new discussion. So here I go.

Has anyone successfully burned an English-patched version to CD and had it play on a Duo? I have the original files, the README and all of that, but the plain truth is I'm just not really very computer savvy.

If anyone can give me guidance on how to get this done, I'd be eternally grateful. Well I don't know about eternally, but for quite a long time.

Some of the more confusing points are:
What is CDRWIN and how does it allow me to make ISO's? Should I just use the free version? There were warnings about slow burn speeds being incompatible with today's drives.
Does it have to be an ISO? There were more file types listed (bin and cue come to mind), but I'm at work right now so I'm just going from memory.

Yeah, so I'm just whining here because I have no idea what I'm doing and the thought of playing Ys IV in English is quite tantalizing.

Again, any help....I love ya.

Yeah, it works.

f*ck CDRWIN, use Nero. Rip the game from your CD using TurboRip, then use TOCFixer (I think it's called) to verify the rip was successful. When it gives you the all-clear, apply the patch by following the instructions that come with it. Then just burn the .CUE file using Nero and you're done.

I used CDRwin myself for Ys IV, Xak III, Dracula X and a few others. It is uber easy as the instructions are included in the translation pack from romhacking. The best thing is they give you a exact number your image size should be to make sure it is a proper 1:1 dump. PM me and I can send you a pre-cracked version of CDRWin. No need to do anything other than insert the disc and hit copy as it is pre-configured for ripping PCE games. Also the patch will not work if you don' have a proper 1:1 image size. There is only one size that works for bin and cue and another size for the shitty ISO rips.

HOLY SHNIZZ!!!!!

I JUST GOT THE PATCH TO WORK!!!!

This is the most amazing thing I've seen all year. This beats the opening ceremonies to the 2008 Olympics...but only by a little.

I tried Nero first, and I couldn't get the ISO size correct, so I just tried CDRWIN, and followed the steps in the readme, and it worked fine.

Thank you all for your help!!!!
